4.5 stars!
Listened to the audiobook on this one and it was everything an “interview style” narration should be. I hated Brooks’ other book, World War Z - too many voices and not enough interest. This was so well pieced together with the journal entries and science experts and the PERFECTLY placed Timothy Treadwell quote. *chills* For me the journal writings made perfect sense and gave the reader an organic viewpoint into the events.
This book was part gore and guts, a lot of irony and story building and Judy Greer (“TomTom” from 13 Going on 30) was flawless. She played the part soooo well.
This audiobook made me cringe, laugh out loud, gasp and also made me nervous to walk to the bathroom in the middle of the night. It’s been a long time since I was afraid of the dark and this book brought back my youth in that sense. Loved the premise, it all felt realistic and I only docked it half a star because a few times I just wanted less community details and more Bigfoot. In the end it was eerie with a believable storyline and gruesome as hell. Highly recommend the audiobook on this one! I would LOVE to see this as a movie.

Great novel about a community that is made up of a small subdivision at the base of mt Rainier. The house and community are all green but live in a desolate area. Mt Rainier erupts and they are cut off from civilization. Then a strange animal starts coming around. At first they try to deny it but soon they can't deny that there are bigfoot in the area. The apes attack several times by throwing rocks. Then one man tries to go for help and they capture him. They torture him. The main character and her husband dan venture into the nest of the beasts and only escape when an older woman from the community scares the bigfoot with fire. The bigfoot attack one night and the older woman is killed. But they manage to kill one bigfoot and injure the alpha. They come again and this time everyone but the main character and a young girl are killed. They live for a week more in that community and then the journal ends. You are left wondering if they went to kill all the bigfoot or died.

I absolutely loved this book. It’s a well thought out and researched novel. I am a big urban legend/monster fan so when I came across this novel I was excited to read it. This is also a great “beginner” sci-fi/horror story. It’s rooted in reality, which makes it that much more unsettling. I loved the science behind it. As a trained anthropologist, I applaud his use of the fossil record and knowledge of evolution to flesh out the plausibility of Sasquatch. Very well done and I will certainly be reading more by this author.

Close on 4/5 vs 5/5 - it was a bit gruesome but I'll give it a 5 since it was really engaging

This is the first of his I have read but won't be my last. Although it was supposed to be about Big Foot, but it didn't seem to me that much was about it, at least for me. Don't get me wrong it was a good read, and you should take a chance and read it.
