This book is very well written. That is both a good and a very very bad thing. This book took me 2 months, and I mean that in the best possible way. It at times made me sick to my stomach. The movie did no justice on the trauma that both Danny and Wendy went through. In the movie  it was like a light switch, bam they got there, bam he turned crazy .but no in reality of the slow process of him going insane. And that’s the thing they could even see that “this isn’t my dad it’s the hotel”. I don’t know how people write like this. Would recommend to anyone who can stomach gore.

As usual, King's writing style is absolutely incredible; however, I believe that my expectations were set a little too high for this novel. I found it interesting that scenes in which the 1980 film adaptation adaptation was known for were not in the book. It took almost half of the book, it seemed, to actually get to the Overlook hotel and have some action. Also, I think that King have too many scenes describing womens' breasts: they had their nipples were showing, clutched their chest, touched themselves, etc.; it was too excessive for my taste.

well written, thrilling and i liked the characters and their dynamic, however the racism and racial slurs constantly used against hallorann was very offputting to me.

this was unnecessarily racist and sexually explicit. uncomfortable in the way that it didn’t have to be, and shouldn’t have been. i hated the use of white characters saying racial slurs, or even anyone in the book for that matter, seeing as stephen king is a white guy. there’s some sexually explicit scenes which where wholly unnecessary, as well as perverted descriptions that don’t add anything to the story. why are there graphic descriptions of the male characters genitals (including the child’s)?? why is every male character commenting on the female characters bodies? it’s just uncomfortably sexual and perverted and racist. i’m sure there’s better horror out there that doesn’t do this. this is the first and only stephen king book i’m gonna read.
