It's astounding how awful the parents are in all of these.
This was my first introduction to the original brothers Grimm stories and over the years i've read each story dozens of times. What really stands out about this edition are the notes and annotations throughout which give a somewhat academic insight into the origins and variations of each story, as well as the truly outstanding illustrations in a variety of diverse styles that continue to inspire a childish wonder in me even now.
A classic, and not the watered-down, prettified Disney classics. Gorey, dark, and wonderful.

Dark and sinister but it is a great collection of tales worth your time
some of these stories were superb, and others were extremely boring so just a standard 3 stars for this one
A great book and gorgeous artwork. Love that the stories have not been edited from the original speech, and that it contains all of the stories. Any time I want to read a story, I pick up the book to a random page. It's wonderful.
This no doubt was enjoyable having been taken back to my childhood stories but I had so many issues with this book.
1. WHY THE HELL WERE GIRLS PRIZE IN EVERY STORY
2. The greatest thing was marriage and for being married you always got the kings daughter in return even if she disliked she was made out the bad guy - girl
3. The biggest insult was to be called ugly and if you were ugly no matter the riches or knowledge you had you were useless
4. Why were the youngest always the good children the oldest evil and the middle a follower to the youngest? As a middle child, I would like to say much the opposite is the case in my family
I hated many other things but these four were compulsory in every story so not spoilers if you would call them that. On the other hand, this was enjoyable and I heard of allot of stories I would of otherwise never known.
