It took me years to read this. The stories just seemed to be the same over and over again, just with a few details changed. And inside the individual stories, there was a lot of repetition. I think writing all of these tales would be a pain before the introduction of the cut and paste function...

My parents gave me this book of stories when I was child. Traumatized.

Read this for Coursera's SF&Fantasy course, and the original tales are quite bloody indeed. Ashenputtel/Cinderella's sisters cut off their toes and heels in order to make their feet small enough to fit the lost shoe, for example.
