Oof this book tugged at my heartstrings and brought me to sobbing tears more then once. I hope I am able to convey how powerful and amazing this book is

The book has the following Tropes
✔️ Military Hero and Heroine
✔️ Love Triangle
✔️ Cheating
✔️ Angst ( lots and lots)

Trigger warnings:
cheating, graphic depiction of SA and murder ( during wartime), PTSD ( both characters), alcoholism.

I listed to the audio book and I highly recommend it, the narrators are superb.

Katy has a 6 year old son with her husband Gavin, who she's been married to since she was 19. She's a medic in the army and is being deployed to Iraq. Katy is in love with her husband, who is kind and patient. She adores their family.

While on deployment she meets a combat soldier, Chris Briggs. Briggs is a huge flirt and Katy isn't immune to his charm but she keeps him at a arms length distance despite how attracted she is to him. Her marriage vows are sacred to her. She does become close friends with Briggs.

Katy begs to go out on a mission with Briggs and when there's an opportunity for her to go to the village in a diplomatic mission she jumps on it. Unfortunately while out, their vehicle is ambushed and Briggs and Katy fight tooth and nail for their lives and support eachother when they become captives of the enemy combatants.

They love through unspeakable horrors and come home both traumatized. Briggs because he feels like he can never be with the woman he fell in love with and Katy suffers from severe ptsd. She returns to her husband a shell of the woman she was before deployment and her marriage is impacted.

She doesn't think she will ever see Briggs again until they are reunited on national television and her heart access for him desperately. Gavin sees the husk of the woman he married, change into a different person around Briggs.

Katy has to make choices about which her heart belongs to, knowing her decision will impact her future and her family forever.

I really wanted to not like this book. I usually don't like any stories that involve cheating but I couldn't help fall in love with the characters: Scottie, Briggs and even Gavin. I went through so many different emotions reading this book, from crying at one point to just laughing at another. We get to see Scottie and Briggs and the rest of the unit as they were deployed in Baghdad saving lives but also just trying to make it through each day. What Scottie and Briggs went through was devastating to read about but really gave heart to the story and Scottie's recovery. I cried reading about her struggle to gain some sense of normal after the terrible events even though the person she knew was gone. Briggs came off as a tough but lovable guy but at the same time I was also rooting for Gavin because he was a sweetheart and he just wanted his wife back. All in all, I highly recommend this but prepare some tissues because you'll most likely end up shedding a few tears at their story.

Five stars. I don't normally leave reviews, but this book had me feeling all sorts of emotions throughout. I could feel the love, the sexual tension, the humor and the fear and heartache as I was reading. Truly a story that I was engrossed in.

This has to be one of the best books I’ve ever read. I cried like a baby at the end. It was so good. Highly recommend.

I tried to like this book, the start was promising after that it went downhill. I understand ptsd but Katy’s behaviour for me is no where near redeemable. She’s the one destroying her marriage(without much effort) + drunkard is not helping. At least if she didn’t cheat and lusting on another man i’d give it pass but nah I hate her. Gavin deserved better.
