Because the book was very confusing to understand and the characters were annoying. And nothing made sense I had to read a page like 5 times to understand anything.

I think this is the first time I don’t really like any of the protagonists of a book, yet I’m compelled to keep reading anyway.

Honestly, the Liars were all assholes in different ways. Cady and Mirren were alright as people, but too blinded by their privilege and their sheltered lives to be truly likeable; Johnny was just a straight up arse, with very few redemptive moments, and Gat… Gat would’ve been a great character if only his treatment as an outcast had been explored better — perhaps if he’d held Cady accountable for being wilfully blind to her family’s racism and treatment of him. As a result, I didn’t very much care what happened to them — but kept reading anyway, because the way it was written just hooked me. Although the plot twist wasn’t bad at all, it felt only slightly cheap; the writing was definitely the strongest point about this one, with the author’s descriptions being so lush and evocative, and the characters being well fleshed-out through their relationships with Cady, although it could’ve been useful to show who they really were apart from their relationships with Cady. The family relationships in particular were exceptionally well-portrayed: although sometimes it felt a little like you should feel sorry for these incredibly rich and privileged people, I’m sure many will recognize the complete emotional deafness and constant silencing which reign over the Sinclairs.
