Beautifully presented on Audible.

I loved Donoghue's Room, which I think is a tour de force. This one is also very good; indeed, I read it obsessively. Lib, the heroine, a nurse trained by Florence Nightingale in the Crimea, has secrets of her own as she is drawn into the even darker secrets of the O'Donnell family. Some may find the ending unrealistic, but it is satisfying in many ways.

I am going to treasure this story forever.
Trying to explain what this book made me feel would be hard to put into words.
My respect for the author who created such a strong female character, a dedicated nurse who I grew to love.
Lib is fighting superstition, rigid mentality, the sexism of those times ( 1859) and her challenging role when she has to choose between her duty or her moral and just instincts.
This book offered me more than I could ask from a mistery - drama.

I found myself wondering when this book would get started even though I was well into the story. The author did a fine job of creating the dreary, zealot lifestyle that these people lived and that is what made the story seem like it was dragging. The story was a good read, despite the slow storyline and I found myself pulling for Lib and wanting her to keep trying to get through to these people.

I didn't really like Room and I'm not sure about this either. The first half could have been edited heavily as it dragged and I don't think achieved anything by it. In fact I think the whole book could be pared right back and would make a much better short story.
