Now, did I tell myself to read the five pack that includes all the books on Kindle Unlimited? Yes. But am I committed to that as of right now? Well. I am a little flaky when it comes to continuing series, even ones that I love so this doesn't come with hard feelings.
This book to me is very in line with others I've read. Which makes it hard to go 'Woah, what, huh?'. It held great promise early on, I enjoyed the characters, and the appeal of the magic system, in theory. (The magic system wasn't expanded as much in this installment but I'm betting/hoping that changes in the subsequent books.)
I pleasantly liked Vhalla early on, as she was just a humble librarian, but I felt her dragging on later. She felt a little too primed to be a self insert for someone and self-inserty protagonists are one of my biggest pet peeves. I am pretty harsh with my judgement on protagonists as they are one of the main makers or breakers of books for me so it isn't a stone sentence, she could always win me back over. (Maybe...) I mainly liked Larel and Fritz. Where were they for most of it? On the other hand, I don't think I will remember anything about Aldrick.
As the biggest lover of love I anticipate romance in every book I read, the subtler and slower the better, and this one, much like most of this book, MIGHT have been good early on but eventually felt like I wasn't reading anything new. I think that explains my whole thought process with this book: Fine, but nothing new for me. Strangely enough, I liked the trial. That part of the book may be the only portion that I remember from here on out. I'm a sucker for trials in books. I blame my obsession when I was younger with the trial in Alice in Wonderland.

This book was a tad bit predictable and a tiny bit cliched but I had a blast reading it. Air Awakens has such a fun world and the magic system made me feel an explainable need to watch ATLA. The best word to describe this book would be fun. I was smiling throughout this book, having a blast getting lost in the world and story. Vhalla made me want to bash my head against a wall sometimes but there are few YA protagonists that don't make me want to do that. Overall I am really looking forward to getting my hands on the next book in the series.
