I cannot get over the pair of guards named Daniel and Craig.
He pushed her off a roof to test his hypothesis… she broke several bones and they fell in love :)
They weren’t kidding when they said the book is really digestible. Like it’s so easy to read and the worldbuilding is pretty solid for the first book. In terms of plot I don’t think much happens tbh bc it’s mostly set up but I didn’t mind. Characters were loveable although somewhat two dimensional but fun and I loved Vhalla for the most part except in the middle of the book where she made such dumb decisions and whatnot and I genuinely had to trudge through the book. The ending somewhat made up for that middle but I don’t think I’m too keen on picking up the next book for now.

Rating vero e proprio: 3.5 stelline.
Carino, ma nulla di entusiasmante. L'ho trovato un libro di clichè visti in altri 438 libri YA. La magia è interessante, ma viene poco esplorata.
So che la serie migliora e sono comunque curiosa di leggere il seguito!

A library apprentice learns she has a rare power. Will she decide to train or leave magic behind for the knowledge she is accustomed to? Let’s find out!
Read if you like: YA high fantasy, Avatar the Last Airbender, slow burn, morally grey love interests, hidden powers, last of her kind, brains above brawn, mystery, fate of the world.
Vhalla was happy with her modest life in the library. The world might be at war but she found solace in books and learning. Her unfettered love of learning led her to assist the dark sorcerer prince survive a wound. When he realizes Vhalla has magic once thought extinct he awakens her. She is now forced into a world of bias due to her powers. If she decides to keep her rare magic everything will change… possibly the whole world.
Air Awakens is an easy-to-read high fantasy YA adventure. We get thrown right into Vhalla’s life and quickly realize that the world is a mess and she is, understandably, quite happy to remain with the books and the master of the library. The characters are all very straightforward. Vhalla is the hapless heroine, who happens to be oh-so-special. The love interests are starkly different and obvious in their roles. There are really fun magical systems in place and there is just enough political intrigue to get you invested in the ongoing conflict.
I enjoyed everything enough. The setting and premise provide a unique yet familiar feel to the world. Who wouldn’t love a magic librarian lead? But the tropes did most of the work and carried the plot while Vhalla was having a hard time deciding what path to choose. This choice and her process of weighing the options was a large and repetitive part of the plot. Especially when the choice was so clearly weighted. We end with a lot of heavy handed and shallow bias and conflict that shifts the trajectory of the story in a way that makes sense, but could have been done in a less theatric and dubious way. I will pick up the second book when I need an easy to read fantasy adventure.
