Someone’s a bit obsessed with penises; Also, it almost felt like a horror movie with so much gushing virgin blood/dick-too-big rending; but I did see the beginnings of a lot of old-timey romance tropes
So boring. I get why the book was banned, especially given when it was written. Did not love any of the characters, so really the only interesting part is the sex. The sex scenes were not any hotter than any other romance novel So if not hotter and the characters are lame, I think the book is past its prime.

Surprisingly enjoyable, as a person who doesn’t particularly read smut or classical literature for funsies. The prose was very amusing, and the story itself is as sex positive as is reasonable to expect from something written well before the women’s lib movement.
Yes, it's porn, but it's something else too. It's an eye opener about the condition in which women lived during an era when women had no rights and no ability to make their own way in the world. Those of us who have lived our lives in a world where we have always had the right to vote and the right to get a job and support ourselves financially have a hard time remembering just where we were in the world before we got here. There is no finer illustration of how bad things were for my gender, than this novel.
