An incredible page turner, but unfortunately it was predictable and many of the characters weren't properly fleshed out.

Right from the beginning, Mister Tender's Girl pulled me into its story. There wasn't a dull moment in the book.

Alice's story was disturbing. The way a character created by her dad led to such tragic events in her life chilled me.

The story itself was one big mess. In an interesting way, of course. I couldn't stop reading, and yet, I didn't want to know what happens next. Told you, it was a mess.

And that is exactly why I loved it. I love psychological thrillers that mess with your head. The kind of books that make you wonder about things you'd never think about on your own.

All in all, Mister Tender's Girl was a chilling, goosebumps-raising read that will leave you paranoid and make you wonder whether you want to hug the book or throw it away.

I loved this book--it had everything a book could have in order to make me love it.  Coffee shops, baristas, unpublished books, Phantom of the Opera, Winnie the Pooh, women who take matters into their own hands, plot twists, family drama, Boston, London, bartenders, twins.  SO GOOD.

Broken up into three parts, Mister Tender's Girl follows Alice, a stabbing victim whose past has come back to haunt her fourteen years later.  Each chapter ends in a punchy way that propels you into the next chapter, hungry for more.

Half the time I forget how much I love thrillers, and this one made me remember immediately.  Here we have survivors, female violence, male violence, and discussion of families and the aftermath of traumatic events.  And the way all the clues come together to suggest an ending that's almost unbelievable--it's just so good.

I'd definitely suggest this to those who love thrillers, coffee, and intertextuality.  You won't want to miss it.

#TIL: "fast-paced, spine-tingling read" = reads like every other best seller I've ever laid eyes on. Unsure if author knows anything about drug use, but reasonably sure the answer is no. Would advise him to skip such plot devices in the future, or at least expressing them through tropes.

Not bad for eating up time on a long flight, though!

I enjoyed the pacing of this thriller... there were definitely some twists that I predicted INCORRECTLY and the book kept me guessing for at least the first two-thirds. Lots of interesting layers with character interactions, though I felt that one of the final twists was maybe TOO unpredictable and sudden. It's set in October so this was a nice time to be reading it.

Wow! Just wow!

A fast paced thriller based on the Slenderman case from a few years ago.

Every time I thought I had an idea who “Mr. Interested” is, plot twist. The ending will have you saying “wtf”.

Mister Tender’s Girl was such a great read. While Alice is working to figure out and unravel who is stalking her and who is really behind everything bad that has happened to her, you’ll be guessing along with her. The entire book takes place in the span of about two weeks. In those two weeks, Alice unravels pieces of her past, her life is turned upside down again, and she meets with the twin girls who stabbed her and left her for dead 14 years ago. In order to solve all these mysteries in her life, Alice must use sayings from her late fathers made up bedtime stories from her childhood.

Who is stalking Alice? Who has been taking photos of her? Who saved her that night 14 years ago? Who can she trust, if anyone?

Holy page turner, Batman. So many plot twists and turns. The suspense had me staying up late so I could read more, especially once I got to the third part of the book. It makes you wonder what one would do in a similar situation. I was so worried when Alice went to visit the twins. Jack was so creepy, he made me shudder with disgust. Did not see what happened with Brenda coming. Hope Richard turned out to be a good guy and her brother Thomas is able to turn things around. Would love to see a sequel. I feel invested in these characters at this point. I look forward to reading other books by this same author. Thanks Bookishfirst for the free copy to review, just hate that my dog spilled tea on my copy.
