This Woven Kingdom

“This was impossible. Not only impossible, it was dangerous. Ruinous. Not merely for themselves—but for the realms they occupied. Their lives were pitted against each other. He had a kingdom to one day rule, and she had her own life to pursue. Any other avenue would lead only to chaos.
His grandfather was trying to kill her.
No, Alizeh understood then, even as it pierced her heart, that if she did not destroy this fragile bloom between them now, it would only one day grow great enough to crush them both.”

I love the drama, it feels like a soap opera, but fantasy. I really enjoyed the tension between Alizeh and the two men in this first book. I have an idea of where the unexpected romance will go, but it doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy some tension with non-endgame characters, right???
The writing does get worse at times, I’ll be honest, but there are some good lines. This is what I classify as “good trash”. It’s not an epic high fantasy, but it’s absolutely enjoyable and worth recommending to friends.

I’m going to have to give myself permission to DNF a book.

This book is just so depressingly boring… NOTHING is happening! I keep seeing people saying to keep reading, but I shouldn’t have to make it to the second book to be interested…

Every chapter I read seems like it’s just saying the same thing over and over in every sentence which makes me want to start grinding my teeth out of frustration.

Please save yourself the misery and time. Read a book you will actually enjoy. I tried, I gave myself 10 chapters to be interested just for literally NOTHING to happen that whole time.

I made it to page 113 and I cannot do it. I had such high hopes as well.

Good riddance.

I listen to most of this on audiobook and it was such a fun read!
I liked that we have different themes and cultures in this one, and honestly it had such good humour!
The MMC was down bad for sureeee and even though this was mostly a lot of set up and world building, it felt like a good length without it dragging on too long.
It did give proper TOG vibes, and after the ending I’m looking forward to continuing the series!
Also the audiobook was great, held with pronunciation and the narrator had such a nice, authentic, rich voice.
I think I would’ve struggled to read the dialogue parts as it’s quite old fashioned, but she made it really easy and enjoyable to listen to.

In the first half of the book there is a lot of telling instead of showing. The overall story is interesting, and the second half of the book was more exciting.

I can barely describe how disappointed I was in this book. I almost DNF'd it several times, but reading other people's reviews made me keep going. I should've stopped. I wonder if we were really reading the same book. I found the first 300 pages boring, but the last 200 got better and better. I think I would have enjoyed the book a lot more if the first 300 pages were cut out. Also the reviews all over the book were false advertising. I did not find the romance agonizing, addictive,or heart wrenching. It claimed a forbidden romance steams up the pages, but there was no romance. Kamram would barely admit to himself that he fancied Alizeh for most of the book, and Alizeh felt indifferent towards him. Maybe for the rest of the series these claims will be accurate, but I will not be continuing, despite the last 100 pages being fantastic.
