the way she crafts sentences like she invented each word and knew its true purpose wtf askfhdks
how can i write like her (T-T)
examples:
“You’ve been inside my mind have you? You’ve taken a tour of my soul?”
“He drew a map of her with his fingers until he found her face, which he took into his hands, and upon which he made a discovery that bade him still.”
“You have consumed my thoughts since the moment I met you,” “I feel now, in your presence, entirely strange. I think I might fetch you the moon if only to spare your tears again.”
“The people look to your disposition as a bellwether of all to come; the temperature of your heart will define the tenor of your rule, which will in turn affect every aspect of their lives.”
ngl i nearly gave up on this book, but i kept going; and nearing the halfway point was when things started hyping up!
insane writing, insane world building, a badass fmc, each character is loveable in their own right, THE ENDING??????????
ALSJDSK

ay ay ay i don’t know why voodoo happened at the end but i liked the dynamics
I really enjoyed the overall story, albeit it could perhaps have been a bit more complex; I felt it focused a little too much on the *snore* lovey-dovey parts. (OK, so it might just be me being a cynical old(ish) lady... ;)) This why I'm not sure yet if I want to continue reading this series.... but I probably will.
The first half-ish was soooo incredibly slow, but not necessarily in a bad way. It kept me interested and I felt pretty immersed in the book, especially the more I read. After that halfway point, it for sure picked up the pace, not in the actual story, but more so the unfolding of the events. I've heard the series gets even better throughout the books, so if I enjoyed this one so much, I can't wait to read the next ones. I absolutely loved the way Tahereh Mafi wrote this. Her word choices really help with immersion. And I love when a fantasy book is written in 3rd person. This series may even be put in my big 3.
At this point, I would give Tahereh Mafi my firstborn child if she asked, and I don't even like children. And that child's father will be Kamran. No discussion needed
