Still trying to figure out this book. Didn't hate it, but certainly didn't like it. It was a fast read, but I kept waiting for something to happen that would make me like the main character, and it never did. And sometimes I think that is the part of the point of a book--but I don't think I was supposed to dislike Hildy so much in this book. If I was, well, job well done. There wasn't really anyone I liked, actually. Except Frank, maybe.

This book really exceeded my expectations. I picked up a used copy of this awhile ago and just hadn't been inspired to read it. But I finally did, and it was absolutely lovely. I feel like I haven't rooted for a character in awhile the way I was rooting for Hildy. There was so much warmth and wit in her, and in the book, even alongside a lot of sadness and struggle.

This was an excellent read. A well written tale with great characters, flaws and all. I would definitely read more by this author.

While I did enjoy the New England small town setting of this novel, I found Hildy to be an unreliable and unlikable narrator and had a hard time rooting for her.

After watching the movie and realizing it was a book, I had to give it a try. They stuck to the story pretty solidly when making the movie. You’re rooting for the protagonist the entire time, wanting her to make progress and the snug, New England setting makes it all that more intriguing.

Where is the actual story? This was a collection of vignettes of life in a super privileged New England town. Other than a mild concern about Rebecca, I had no questions I was searching the story for to have answered. Did not finish.

Really good story, and the narration on audible was excellent!
