Just as I expected! As soon as I got time to just sit down and read this book, I loved it. There was so much going on and it took so many unexpected turns and I can't wait to pick up the third one and then catch up with the fourth!
(But please, don't kill Cleo, she's my fave!)

Nope, nope and nope.
I just won't go on with the torture of reading a third book of this story.
should've learned since the first.
This story doesn't add anything to the fantasy genre, it's a complete mash up of clishe-ish characters with wooden predictive dialogues and even more predictive situations.
There are better things I could be reading than this.

I can't quite tell if this is better or worse than [b:Falling Kingdoms|12954620|Falling Kingdoms (Falling Kingdoms, #1)|Morgan Rhodes|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1337026387s/12954620.jpg|18111704]
On the one hand, there are less info dumps and the writing is less clumsy. On the other hand, the pace is not quite as fast and it steps more towards YA generic fantasy. It's worth mentioning though that while the twists were fewer in this book at least one of them managed to catch me by surprise.
Nevertheless, this series remains my little lite fantasy read that's fun, amusing and sometimes downright ridiculous.

I never thought the author would actually go through with marrying Magnus and CleoNevertheless, this series remains my little lite fantasy read that's fun, amusing and sometimes downright ridiculous.
Not too bad for a second book in the series! 3.5 stars for me. Didn't suffer too much from second book syndrome, but a big part of getting through this book is Rhode's writing. Very smooth and fluid and the way she write multiple perspectives helps elevate the plot and keep it moving especially in setting up a lot of the characters and putting them into place for the coming books. I've heard that book 3 is the turning point of the series, so I can't wait to start reading it asap! (ALSO, had noo idea she was a Canadian author, so I'm also glad I'm reading more domestically haha)
So I can not give more than 2 stars for this book, I think Brandon Sanderson books upper my expectations for fantasy so much... Also, I hated the romance parts in this series, like the main character Cleo I can refer to her as the girl who kisses nearly all the main/secondary male characters in this series and you don't know when the next kiss will happened or with whom ,like the kiss of Nick and that guy.
As the world building, I didn't find it good or well explained enough. Like I feel when I think about the falling kingdoms world like I am in box like I don't see other kingdoms other than Mystic. I think in gathering darkness there will be an introduction to other kingdoms.. So even with all the flaws in this book I am going to read gathering darkness because I am totally curious about what will happen next
