A solid ya thriller. I don’t know how Kieran Scott/Kate Brian does it, but I have enjoyed almost all of her books, especially her thrillers. She just writes in a way that keeps me guessing and makes me feel like I can’t put the book down.

And oh my goodness, the ending! That was so well done. I also really liked the journal entries from the villain’s perspective, which amped up the suspense even more.

Kieran Scott, at it again.

So, it's common knowledge between me, myself, and I, that Kieran Scott/Kate Brian is my favorite author. I've read almost everything this woman had written, and I've loved every second of it.

With that being said, I've been avoiding this book for about two years. It just seemed so scary! It was definitely something different than any other Kieran Scott book- I have to reread those, by the way-and I have zero tolerance for horror, so I was nervous.

While sometimes the need to read something by a trusty author is overwhelming, so I finally took this out from the library...and read it in one sitting.

Yes, it was a tad terrifying, suspenseful, and thrilling. But I had forgotten how well Scott writes characters and dialogue and everything else! She's just an insanely readable and impressive author. So, to no one's surprise, I loved this.

I had an inkling about who the psycho murderer was, and I was right! I also enjoyed the regular high school drama- Callie was trying to fit in with new friends and grow closer with her boyfriend, Jeremy, who I was a fan of. (I think Scott is incapable of writing unlikable love interests, and I've never been OK with anything more than that.)

The survival aspect was pretty thrilling. Got the heart pumping. Also, there's gotta be survival one sort of trigger warning in this book, because that scene in which the three girls wake up and are covered everywhere in spiders? I wanted to burn my face off. Holy crap, that was awful.

But as always, please keep writing, Ms. Scott. You are my everything!

Kieran Scott creates a tense, psychological thriller perfect for young adult/teen readers. The reader is left trying to solve who are the victims and who is the enemy as they follow Jeremy, Callie, Lissa and Pen on their hike. I read this book in 1 day! Fast and thrilling, the reader will be debating with themselves the entire read. I figured most of it out but not until towards the end of the book; Scott makes it difficult for the reader to figure out though!

Teen drama and over the top ~scary~ with a negative portrayal of mental illness. Joy.

This book was soooo good!! I loved the twists and from the moment I started it, I couldn't put it down. I loved the romance and the conflicts and I really wish Kieran Scott would write another creepy book like this one because I enjoyed it so much.

I thought overall the situation was perfect for a thriller and the ending was really unexpected, but also predictable enough to believe it could be possible. The one problem I have is with Callie. She seemed to be really scared to go camping for absolutely no reason and also seemed very needy and acted like she didn't like her friends at all. I say if you are only going camping (which you hate) to be accepted by your friends then you need new friends. Also Lissa was so mean the entire time! I feel like it's one thing to have a character with a reason to be mean but Lissa was just a bully to everyone (and these were supposed to be her friends!). All of the characters were whiny and turned on each other really fast. I felt like this book could have been better if they truly acted like friends.

This book takes a little while to warm up. Once it does, the book is a thriller more than horror. Yes, there are dead bodies, but more than that is the knowledge that the characters are alone… in the woods… with no phone… and a killer.

Cliché? Sure. But that doesn’t stop it being fun, and I was surprised to learn who the killer was.

Not an instant classic, but worth a read!
