I really did not know Stephen King wrote books under 500 pages. I enjoyed this short story very much, a nice listen while I cleaned the house.

This was overall a highly disappointing read. The plot is weak and characters feel fairly one dimensional. The best thing about this book was the shiny cover.

Not one of my favourite Stephen King stories, but not completely horrible. The story is very short and it's also somewhat sweet. Of course, there's some woowoo stuff going on, it IS Stephen King after all...

Not good. Stilted, old man-ish, and bad gender politics

Elevation is a Stephen King novella set in a small town, where one resident finds himself mysteriously losing weight—a lot of weight. While handling his uncertain future surprisingly well, he also begins helping others in his town and making new friends.

Why did I decide to read this book?
I picked up this novella at my local library after searching for Stephen King books they had available. Recently, I’ve been reading many of his novels (mostly his novellas), and Elevation was one I hadn’t read yet.

What did I love about this book?
I’m a fan of Stephen King’s writing style. The way he brings mundane details to life—such as a conservative town full of diverse personalities—while blending them with a surreal, paranormal life crisis makes this story unpredictable and, at times, unsettling.

I absolutely love horror and mystery with a touch of the unknown and a hint of fantasy. It made for a surprising read, different from other stories I’ve read so far. Right up until the end, it kept me curious and engaged.

Would I recommend this book?
Yes! For fans of short mysteries and paranormal horror, this is a solid pick. And if you’re already a Stephen King reader, especially of his novellas, I definitely recommend adding Elevation to your TBR.

Stephen King is just one of our greatest story tellers. Lovely and well paced, this story made me laugh and cry. Well done.

It's fine

This was my first Stephen King book and let’s just say I was…disappointed…

I don’t understand where he came up with this idea but it just seemed so RANDOM. An overweight guy has beef with a lesbian couple but try’s to extend an olive branch to them while also having a personal issue of decreasing weight, to the point where he floats away…It doesn’t make sense!

I only gave it two stars because it was so random that it was a little intriguing but also nothing was climatic. And the politics that was sprinkled in was annoying because he bashed my president. And no one avoids a restaurant because it’s owned by lesbians, they might avoid it though because they didn’t sell meat!
