Scott Carey is losing weight. A lot of weight. But his waist measurement doesn't change and his appetite is as good as ever. What do you expect? It's Castle Rock, Maine. What I did not expect was to have Stephen King make me cry.
Sort of a different riff on the “thinner” curse from a previous King story. One that certainly shows more maturity in the author. Less horror, more wonder.
Cool!
This is a very fun short story. I would have liked it to be longer, but terms the breaks! Now I have to wait who knows how long until Uncle Stevie gets something else out to us!

An uplifting contemporary fable & homage to Richard Matheson - a nice Christmas present from The King!
This is a wonderful little (literally) book. It left me feeling hopeful about the state of things. And I suspect that was exactly what Mr. King had in mind.
This short little book is about a man who mysteriously starts losing weight for no reason - but the weird part is that it doesn't look like he is losing weight. The scale shows weight going away and he *feels* lighter, but he looks the same. It is almost like he is losing gravity. This book never gets truly scary or supernatural. It is more a story about friendship and I guess aging and grief. Also, there was a chapter that SURPRISE! took place on Halloween, so I could check that off the reading challenge! Not one of my top SK books, but even his not best books are still entertaining.
A feel good Stephen King book. Scott keeps losing weight, without a reason for it. He meets some new friends along the way with some folks who were not a fan of his nor the town in general. It’s a quick read but a nice story that keeps you intrigued.
Wow, this was way different than I thought it would be -what's up with that?
I’ve never been a fan of King’s short stories. I gave this one a shot because my husband enjoyed it. It was definitely better than most of his short stories but no where near the quality of his novels. It had an interesting storyline and was more of a positive, uplifting story (pun intended) than his usual work. That part I liked. I felt like I missed something important though. When I finished reading it I thought to myself “I don’t get it”. If he was trying to instill some hidden wisdom or something it was lost on me. I mean there are obvious metaphors in the storyline but I still felt like I missed something.
2 stories in one. Very short and sweet. Made me tear up in both stories.
First one: guy keeps losing weight but doesn’t look like it and has the turkey trot included.
Second one: you’ll love it if you’ve ever had a rescue dog or puppy in general
