I just didn’t enjoy this at all. It’s not horror so I don’t know why it’s categorised like that on goodreads and the premise was just boring.
Definitely not what I expected from King after how much I enjoyed It.

This is a short story (especially by King standards) about a man experiencing a very weird physical phenomenon while also trying to figure out who to feel about his new neighbors. The new neighbors are a lesbian couple who just opened a vegetarian Mexican restaurant in his small town, and their dogs are pooping on his lawn, it's all a bit much for him, but he really wants to be nice. It almost doesn't read like King, but there are clues.

This is just a short, fun read. What an idea for a plot... He doesn't change his look but he keeps losing weight. That's cool enough, but then, he can make things he touches weightless. I mean... It's just a fabulous book idea.
I really like that they didn't cure him, they didn't solve it. They went out as friends and gave him the ending he deserved. It's also ambiguous as to when/if he dies. I mean, he has to right? Eventually he'll end up in outer space...
The only part I thought odd was how ok he was with it all the time. He never seemed to fear death or floating away. I know if it was me... Sure I may eventually come to terms, but he's never worried about it at all really.

✨Review✨
•
“Everyone should have this, he thought, and perhaps, at the end, everyone does. Perhaps in the time of their dying, everyone rises.”
•
Stephen King’s short story, {Elevation}, follows Scott Carey as he discovers that though his body is not changing at all, the scale undeniably shows that he is losing weight at a rapid pace. His body is becoming lighter, or elevated, if you will, and though he is able to enjoy some aspects of this, could it ultimately lead to him...simply floating away?
•
Y’all, I can’t. The description of this book refers to it as “extraordinarily eerie,” but I think the only “eerie” thing about it is that Stephen King’s name is tied to it. This is only the second thing I’ve read by King, and though I loved {Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption}, this one just didn’t do it for me.
•
I’m afraid that one of the key factors influencing my review is that I listened to the audiobook, and it is read by King himself. King isn’t very animated, bless his heart, and I found myself pretty bored through most of it, but I persevered.
•
In the end, I did feel that the whole thing somewhat redeemed itself with the even shorter story, {Laurie}, about a widower and his dog, but overall, I found {Elevation} very anticlimactic and lackluster. I feel a bit bad because I think this is probably the harshest review I’ve written since joining Bookstagram, but I think we can all agree that honesty is the best policy.
