I read this book solely for the panic disorder rep, which I felt was accurate, but I was surprised at how much I ended up enjoying this story. Meg is a very particular kind of person, so I think it takes some time to warm up to her, but I actually liked watching her journey of self-discovery. As someone who doesn’t like math, I didn’t think I’d find myself so invested in the calculations and how Meg related things in life to math (which made the acknowledgements section shocking), but it really added to her character. The romance with Isaac was grown adults finally getting to decide what’s best for them while contending with their traumas and insecurities. It wasn’t a light romance in the slightest, but the weightiness of it complemented the story well. Overall, this one wasn’t what I expected, but I ended up liking that.

More women's fiction than romance.
The FMC is a math genius who struggles with debilitating panic attacks. She's got a nasty father too which doesn't help.

There is a B-plot with a second-chance romance with the MMC who is on the run from the police after accidentally killing someone in self-defense.

The plot started slow and I struggled to get into it. But the second half was much better.

The author has some lovely turns of phrase, and the prose was at times very evocative.

This book does not contain descriptive love scenes.

This book is not as advertised. Was not romcom. Very dark and depressing. Had a good premise but was the tone was jarring and no humour, characters were negative and did not improve when they got together.

Would rate 1.5 stars. The writing was good but over not a positive book.
