These three stars include a bonus for the art interspersed throughout. The writing was fine, but I found the story lacking.
Really fell in love with Evan and Lucy and loved learning about them with all the comics spread throughout the book. Great book for the end of the year. :]
(3.5)
Evan and Lucy are best friends since they were kids. But this year, when she gets back from Georgia, there's something about her that's different. Evan tries to get Old-Lucy back no matter what, but every time when he thinks he finally did it, she slips away.
I liked this book, it's quick and easy. The illustrations are very accurate and the comics are perfect.
I loved Evan as much as I hated Lucy. She acts like she's the centre of the Universe while Evan is the most sweatest, altruistic and intelligent human being alive.
This book does not have an intricate plot or depth, it's a typical Sunday reading, as I like to call it.
Still, it's well written and enjoyable and I sure recommend it.

You ever read a book thats absolute trash, but exactly what you needed to hear? Thats this. Wrapped in Manic Pixie Dream Girl, comes this story of how no matter how much you think you know yourself, there's always something else. No matter where you are, it's not an ending, but just part of the journey. It took me over a week to get halfway through, but as soon as it got to Lucy's POV I finished the book in less than a day. I'm not sure if I'd read it again, but it's one of the few Christmas-y stories I could find.
Lucy and Evan are best friends turned strangers turned friends again turned friends with benefits turned ex-lovers turned possibilities are endless. Winter Town isn't anything special, but it's an adorable holiday-season romance, perfect for settling down with hot chocolate with. Recommended especially for graphic novel/comic fans, there's a clever mix of doodling, actual comic, and story.
Even with its simple plot, Emond really creates gorgeous characters to match his lovely setting, the broken but beautiful Lucy who can only be seen by Evan, the boy with a thousand thoughts beneath his quiet demeanor.

I picked this book up because it felt reminiscent to me of Blankets, which I adored. However, this book was nothing like it. I actually found the main characters in this story annoying, they were all like extreme versions of themselves. Evan was too straight laced Lucy trying too hard to be different, Evan's dad too much of a ball buster The only one I liked was Evan's grandma. It just didn't interest me; maybe it is because I am not of the intended target audience.
just your average young adult contemporary romance, except for the cool illustrations. a cute storyline but predictable, in a good way.
I liked this book. I thought the setting and atmosphere was very well developed, and the drawings added to my reading experience. Most of the pop references flew over my head though.
I liked Lucy as a character but I don't think she got the ending she deserved. Did she sort things out?
And I HATED the way Evan reacted to her past. He wanted to 'fix' Lucy (which is a pet peeve of mine in lit like this) but then couldn't stand with her through all the bad choices she made?
Lucy had a hard time and I thought Evan was so overly judgey.
He was still quite a likeable character though, and the book was entertaining, I just don't think necessarily there relationship was a healthy one.
