This was an okay book. It was nothing special, but I enjoyed listening to it. I've seen some reviews criticising the editing of the book, but I can't really comment on that as the audio kinda hides these things.

The book is about Meghan, who moves to a small town to prove to her dead best friend she can live a happy life. She's also running from a toxic relationship.
The mystery part of the book is a little slow to start, and I would say it's more cosy thriller than mystery as the suspense is more prominent than the mystery itself.

Meghan as a character is not really loveable. She's mostly helpless and relies on another's help a lot, even when she states she wants to stand on her own. And she makes some silly choices. The one interesting part about her is her relationship with Fred, the skittish great dance she kind of adopts after finding him on the street. I truly believe that that dog is the best character in the book.
The characters are not really thought out and quite shallow. I actually liked Kenneth the best because he showed some insecurities.
One more annoying thing about Meghan is that her attraction to basically all available men in town is in focus. Why? Is it to create suspense in the romantic front as well? It's quite obvious that the men in her life will have to fight for her in the other books in the series, which is just cheap plotting.

The mystery part was handled quite well. The blame shifted constantly, there was a lot of open questions, which made it interesting, though a bit unrealistic. But it's fiction, so that's okay.

The audio narration was okay. I didn't really like the narrator's voice but that's a me problem.

Overall, it was an okay story with some annoying aspects. But if you like cosy light mysteries and don't need great characters, this might be for you.

Megan Henny promised her best friend Allie that she'd follow her dreams - dreams that took her away to the town of Seacrest and a new store, a new home and a new life. A body is found at a nearby construction site, leaving everyone as a suspect. Can Megan determine who is a friend and who is a foe in time to solve the murder?

This was a great mystery as red herrings were all over the place and I really enjoy the escapism provided by the plot. I do wish there had been more care taken with the editing as there were several typos. Also, my copy had a central character's name switched back and forth between Fred and Frank. Despite the errors, I'm quite ready to follow Megan on another adventure.
