Grandma strikes again. This series is genuinely funny. Grands Nadine always gives me Betty White vibes.

It’s a feel good, romantic comedy style series. Great when you need a little bit little fluff to read

This book was a mess.

I read both The Wager and The Bet, so I could appreciate the meddling grandma that was interjected every now and then. But a whole book where she is the main focal point....that's not what I came here for. There is nothing the tiniest bit romantic about a story where you have to read about grandma every other page.

The story never seems to get going on a smooth path. It's rough and choppy and jumps all over the place. Everyone is in on trying to get Jace and Beth together but not for any other reason than everyone is nosey. This "it happened one night" backstory felt bogus. And the whole "Grandma will make it happen because Grandma knows all" shenanigans...bogus. She knows neither of these people. And that just brings me back to the irritating question of why she is the main focus of a book with these two characters. It makes no sense.

This is probably my favorite book of this series; the one I read first that started my love of RVD books. I had to go read the other books in this series of course, once I realized I hadn’t started at the beginning and some of the same very loveable characters are in the others.

What can I say? I'm a total sucker for this kind of stories. Super fun, super sweet, and hilarious! I totally recommend it if you're not having the greatest of days or you just need something light but completely entertaining.

First of all, I really enjoyed the first two books. They were quirky and fun. This one? Not so much. The typos and punctuation issues were huge. I was able to read it, but honestly, did ANYONE edit this or reread for errors? Even spell check would've caught some of the punctuation issues if the grammar button was ticked.

I found that this one dragged. I think I liked the bit before the chapters where Grandma is being interviewed by the FBI. The rest of the story... yawn... Beth and Jace just weren't as dynamic as Jake and Char or Kacey and Travis. It happens.

Kinda disappointed if this was the last book.

The Dare (The Bet Series #3) by Rachel Van Dyken
Purchased:Kindle - $3.99
My Rating: 5 of 5 Stars

Spoilers!

What's it all about?
In the final book to ‘The Bet’ series Grandma Nadine makes her final match between Jace and Beth. In some crazy adventures through Hawaii both of Jace and Beth must learn what it means to let go and take a leap of faith, literally. Beth must overcome who she was in high school in order to see what others have seen about her all along. Jace must learn something about his past the he never knew affected him so much, but both are so afraid of themselves rather than the actual commitment. Will they be able to survive the wild crazy antics of the Titus family? Or will they create their own adventure away from prying eyes?

The Best Parts:
One of the best things I love about this book is the act of a parallel story line. At the beginning of each chapter there is a short portion with Grandma Nadine explaining what has happened and what will happen. It is great for the anticipation level when you have to do a double take after a few things she said since something haven’t even happened yet! She is like a spoiler herself! I loved the interaction between the main characters. The chemistry seemed to flow right off the page, and not just with them, but it was great to have the old characters back from the previous books to odd their own sense of chemistry. They all meshed extremely well together like they were real people almost.

The Worst Parts:
There wasn’t much that I didn’t like about this story, but I did feel that I was rushed at the end. I would have liked to see Beth fight for love more and Jace to show how much he loves Beth. The last few chapters just quickly show them choosing to love, but after countless chapters of saying how they needed to show and express it, not in words. I guess I wanted more actions, but I still loved it anyways. Also the epilogue was so brief in made me sad. I wanted to know just a little more about where these couples were in life besides just having kids. I wanted to see if their loves had lasted those five years, and if they were still head over heels.

Final thoughts ...
This series was one that I will never forget. The characters were so real and intriguing that I couldn’t put the books down. I waited almost a week to read The Dare though since I just didn’t want it to end, but I sucked it up and read it in one day and I couldn’t be happier. It put a smile to my face and everything going on at home and at work seemed to just fade away for a little while.
