GIGGLING KICKING MY FEET TWIRLING MY HAIR SQUEALING….
I loved everything about this book. And I love Abbie Emmons YouTube channel, but based on the description of The Otherworld, I didn’t think she would be my type of writer. But I was so wrong!! My only complaint is that it’s a little melodramatic at times and I wish the ending was longer, but I also know there’s a sequel novella so that should satisfy me 😁.
I know Weston is younger than me, but I would marry him even though he’s a double-amputee manic pixie dream girl.

Total YA fluff, but cute. I like the alternating chapters between our two main characters, Tessa and Weston. He helps her with her poetry blog after a car accident leaves her temporarily blind. He lost his legs a few years prior, so he likes being treated normal by her, as she can't see him. It's predictable, but sweet overall.

I don't think the author has a firm grasp on writing teenage boys though. Weston's "daredevil" nature and fights with his friend were a bit much. Although Emmons developed his character well so that he was still likeable.

My top objection with the book would be the excessive use of profanities by Weston. It was off-putting and inappropriate for a YA book. As for sexual content, it was clean. Just two kisses.

I listened to the audiobook read by the author.

I'M LOOKING FOR OWNVOICES REVIEWS OF THIS BOOK!!! IF YOU WROTE OR KNOW ONE PLEASE TELL ME WHERE TO FIND IT
Disclaimer: I don't know the author. I went into her goodreads profile to see if she was an ownvoices author and found out she has a booktube channel, which I honestly hadn't heard of before. I don't know her as a person and none of these opinions have anything to do with her.

I didn't have one big issue with this book, I don't think it's necessarily problematic (I wanted to read OV review but I couldn't find one) but a few things didn't sit right with me.

First of all, the writing felt too childish, like it didn't belong to a 16yo. The MC has a poetry blog that's kind of popular? but it doesn't reflect on her day-to-day speech. Not that I was looking for a lyrical writing style or anything, but there were some uncommon words that she used pretty regularly on her poetry and it didn't reflect on the way she talked. And it felt like she didn't have the emotional intelligence that writing so much poetry would bring. The LI had a lot of chapters that were set three years in the past, when he was 13, and he didn't evolve even one bit since then. He's less of an asshole, I guess, but he spoke exactly the same and the rest of his personality didn't change much, and it's weird bc early adolescence is a time of MANY changes, and we don't get to see that.

The love interest makes the MC be interested in him by going to her house over and over again, even after she's told him not to many times. And the girl's grandparents help him. Even though it all went well in the end, I don't think that's the right path to make two characters like each other.

The story went by too fast, too. The MC is blind for 100ish days, and that's a lot of time and we would've had to feel the despair and fear the MC felt for that time. We get told she's angry and bored and scared and dizzy a lot of times, but we don't really feel the time pass, if that makes sense. The story begins and ends and that's kind of it. I can't say yet if the story is forgettable bc I finished it this evening, but I can already tell it hasn't left much of a mark on me.

I really liked how the story incorporated social media, you can really tell the author is young enough to know what she's talking about. It was very organic, and I wish it had played a bigger part in the story.

Weston, sos tan idiota y dulce, UwU>

A sweet and uplifting love story! This book was everything I had hoped for and so much more. It is kind of predictable but that did not take away my enjoyment at all!

What a beautiful Hufflepuff summer story!

Weston, man. Just....Weston. He's brilliant and I adored him and his outlook and I felt for his internal struggle so much. The broken, hurting, optimistic, bright boys are always my favorites. He reminded me a lot of one of my own characters in that respect. And all his brothers! I LOVED IT. He was such a unique, fresh, lovable guy. I loved it.

Tessa was slightly less of an instant connection for me, but I loved her too. I felt her pain as she struggled with being blind and wanting to write poetry but being too afraid to really LIVE. Also, her friend group and her group chat were some of my favorite things in the story and I wish they had more appearances xD So much fun. They reminded me so much of my group chats with my own besties.

(Also I think Abbie probably read my blog and copied comments from it into her book because GOOD GRIEF they sounded JUST like my comments xD)

Only four stars because:
-Contemporary isn't my genre
-It wasn't an instantaneous FAVORITE
-I wanted more with their families! Especially Weston's brothers!

Overall this book was REALLY REALLY good. I know other reviews have mentioned the language and stuff so I won't try to do a content review here but GUYS read this book okay? SO GOOD.

It’s a shame that this book is so predictable right from the start and this actually made me read it with no interest at all. The only interesting part was Weston’s story. Other than that I tried so hard to like the story itself, but I think it was too boring for me. Still gave 2 stars because I think it could be a cute book for someone who else to read casually when you don’t have anything else on your TBR list.
