Continuing with my relisten of this series, and man, I forgot how gut-wrenching this book is. How I forgot, I don’t know.
Adam and Mia are such a fantastic couple that have a lot to deal with in this book. I love that even when they were breaking my heart and making me feel all the feels that there was also funny moments. I really did not like Jordan in this trilogy but by the end, I was ready to give him a maybe.

Kirsten Leigh is fabulous and taking nothing away from her but Jason Clarke absolutely stole the show with his emotional performance. I felt ALL the emotions.

I think I would've liked this book a whole lot more if Mia had decided to not end her pregnancy. Not because I'm against abortion or anything like that, I fully support women having the right to choose what to do with their bodies. But everything would have been so much more dramatic! The stakes would've been infinitely higher!
Mia could've gotten to 7 months (or maybe 6 and a half) before collapsing, getting an emergency c-section and ending up in a coma after a rushed first chemo session (or surgery and radiation? considering her cancer would've have been a whole lot worse by this point).
The baby would have to be rushed to the NICU. And there you have all this feels! A brand-new mother fighting for her life, a new-born that you don't know if he/she will survive, and a first time father, heartbroken and terrified of losing both the woman he loves and the only thing he might have left of her if she happens to die. Wouldn't THAT have been so much better?
Plus, Adam would've been a witness to Mia deteriorating because of her choice to keep the baby. So you would get all that impotence and helplessness mixed up with his emotions of seeing the baby for the first time, feeling it move inside Mia... He would instinctively love the baby because it's his kid, but at the same time hate it for what it's doing to the love of his life. And most importantly, he would have to deal with all this overwhelming emotions once the baby was born, all by himself.
OMG I wanna read a book like that! I just got myself really excited!
So, yeah, you see why I was disappointed when Mia terminated her pregnancy.
From that point on, it was a lot of depressing moments, wordless fights, ignoring of mayor problems... the usual for Adam and Mia.
What I have to admit I really loved was the sort of game he made her to tell her how he felt about everything. That was unbelievable heartbreaking and at the same time totally sweet and adorable.
I wonder if we'll get to see Mia pregnant, or their kids in Jordan's book...

I loved and hated these books. However, read the entire trilogy in a few days so they weren't horrible, just not my cup of tea. The narration sometimes grated on me, overexplaining things. I also struggled to sympathize with Mia with some of her decisions.

My heart! Adam en Mia are both so stubborn. They obviously love each other, but they were so toxic in the previous book. This one pulled all the heartstrings. And even though I had already spoiled it for myself, by having read Jordan's and William's books first, this instalment still took my breath away at times.

Wow! I am totally blown away by this book! First, I'll just say that the first book in this series was one of my favorite books ever. I love Mia and Adam and their unique story. In book 2, I was devastated by Mia's situation and her secrets. Now in book 3, Mia is faced with the most difficult decision a woman could ever face. My heart broke for her and at 5% in, I was already crying and had to take a little break. I don't know what I would've done if I was in her situation. Adam is an amazing character. He is supportive but also isn't a push-over. This is a true love story, the way Adam helps and cares for Mia is amazing and beautiful. These aren't perfect characters, they make mistakes, they don't always make the best decisions but they are some of the most real, heart-felt characters I have ever read. The writing of this book (and this entire Gaming the System series) is absolutely brilliant. This is unlike a lot of the other books out there right now, it's a unique story that really takes you on a journey. I highly recommend this book and this entire series! I can't wait for Jordan's book next!

I definitely liked this book more than book 2 but not nearly as much as book 1. The drama was stifling at times and I never really got the motivations behind the characters actions. Most of the time they were incredibly frustrating. I don think the author handled a very painful situation well, I just wish we got to see a little more of their happily ever after. I know there is another book for another character, but I still think there should have been more in this one. After everything the readers went through it would have been a nice reward.

5 Lovely Stars...

This last book was by far the best one in the trilogy... I'd like to summarise them all here but I'll try not to give any spoilers away :)

After reading book one (At Any Price) I grew to really like the characters in this series, it was nice, quirky and nerdy, but it leads you into a false sense of security... because Wham! when you're plunged into the second book (At Any Turn) it's like a totally different story from the one you started out with... It was dark and depressing, and Adam's side of the story left us all confused and wondering WTH was going on (which is depicted nicely to Mia in the third instalment) but I stuck with it because I wanted to see how Mia and Adam's story panned out...

At Any Moment was a very touching finale to the series... on the whole, these books take you through the journey of a couple who fall in love and come into tragedy early on in their relationship... we watch their struggles from each of their points of view and most of the time it's really frustrating, but the way the story ends is beautifully done... we see them heal as individuals and then come together and reunite as a couple once more... their HEA is one that will stay with me, and it's one to measure against in books to come...

If you read Brenna's comments on Goodreads there's a link to sign up for emails... when you do, you get a few extra scenes from Adam's POV from the first book which I really enjoyed, and a brief, but nice, 5 year epilogue that is downloadable in PDF format...

I'm so pleased I stuck with these books and can't wait to read more from this author! :)

Adam finds out the secret Mia was keeping and all he wants to do is help her, and he blames himself a lot.
Mia finally realises that Adam’s house is the best place that she can be he’s the one that can be more flexible with his work and help her. For some reason though he won’t let them get intimate, she won’t let him see what the surgery did to her they can’t get past things.
Finally, Adam says they need a break, they need time to think, away from each other.
Mia doesn’t think it will work but it also gives her time to think about things and what she wants. Although Mia knows what she wants she worried that with so long apart Adam won’t want the same thing. Adam knows they have a lot of work but he knows he loves Mia but isn’t always the best at communicating, so he does it the only way he knows how and hands Mia a USB, will she understand what he wants and will she give the right answer.

I am thoroughly enjoying this series. This particular book wraps up the Mia & Adam story (or does it?) and even gives a glimpse into their lives 5 years later... which is weird because then the next book spins off with side characters in present time and I know that in a future book we will read about Mia & Adam's wedding, which takes place before the stuff happening 5 years from now... so the timing is off and feels like the author thought they were done then decided to go back and add more. I don't really care either way because I am LOVING the characters and stories.

Turns out this series is about a lot more than someone auctioning off their virginity and playing video games. Mia is diagnosed with a certain type of aggressive breast cancer which adds a whole 'nother layer to the story. Toss in a surprise pregnancy which threatens her life because she cannot go through with chemo treatments if she doesn't terminate the pregnancy and we have a real dilemma, but even before all that happens, we see her decline in health and her distancing herself from Adam. Like I said, way more than it seemed from the first book!

For the record, the series is good enough I am actually BUYING each book as I go because our library does not have them (I'm a librarian) and I want to read them badly enough I am not even going to go through the process of requesting the library purchase them and wait to see if they do. Nope! These babies are mine right now!

I'm still loving the gamer girl aspect and it is really making me miss Warcraft. So much so that I re-subbed. Now if only my stupid country satellite internet would let me play without latency issues... UGH.
