I am absolutely blown away by the power of this graphic novel. My sister-in-law pulled it off her shelf the last time I was there and I am entirely grateful. This book perfectly demonstrates why I love graphic novels... because sometimes words just aren't good enough and sometimes not even necessary. The art in this book is haunting and so deeply emotive. The images invoke the raw internal emotion of a young woman's relationship to food garndering an empathy and compassion that can be hard to induce and more than once brought me close to tears. If you aren't sure if graphic novels have the power to convey real depth and emotional trauma...pick this book up because you will find yourself sadly mistaken.

Incredibly well done.

So much of this graphic novel resonated with my own experience, it felt like I could have written it. The author so courageously reveals and explores the instances of her life which continue to shape and define who she has grown to be. It is nothing short of a miracle that this tortured soul found the strength to face her eating disorder, her rape, and her own insecurities so that she is thriving (surviving) now as a successful adult.

4.5 - this one hit hard…the art is so representative of the feelings one experiences during the struggle with food and self image and everything else. I liked how real and honest she was during the whole book because it’s a painful experience and way of living
