I love this series. I first started reading this series back in 2010 or 2011. I read the first 7 books (book7 came out in 2014), and then lost track (so many new books and series I started reading).
My husband bought me the books 1-14 for Christmas in 2021. I have now bought book 15 & 16 and decided to re-read from the beginning and catch up on the world of Archangels, Angels and Vampires.
I’m loving these books just as much the second time around.
Archangel Raphael has made Elena into an Angel. The first ever “made” Angel.
Elena has to learn how to fly and how to control her new wings.
I loved the way Raphael teaches her;
"The only way to learn to fly, is to fly." He pushed her off the edge of the cliff.
"That's your idea of teaching? I could've been splattered from here to Manhattan!"
"You were never in any danger." His eyes gleamed with laughter. "That's how young angels learn to fly..."
"You push babies out into thin air?"
"How do you think birds learn to fly?"
"Okay, push me again."
One of the oldest of the Archangels, Lijuan, wants to meet Elena, so invites her and Raphael to a party. This will allow Lijuan to meet Elena, but also test her and find out what she is made of, how strong she is, and why Raphael is so enamoured with her.
The only thing is, Lijuan is raising a Zombie army. As yet, she is only keeping her army as pets.
I love some of the side characters that are part of Raphael's seven – Dmitri, Illium, Jason, Venom. I can’t wait for some of these characters to get their own books and get their stories.

I appreciated how Raphael kept his archangel personality and temper throughout this book even when he was mates to Elena who ‘made him a little bit human now’.
Most of this book was Elena strengthening herself to meet the other archangel Lijuan in Beijing, who kept giving her threatening gifts. It was nice seeing Elena realistically weaker than other angels/vampires when she turned into an angel instead of magically being able to do everything like in a lot of other fantasy novels. I also like how all the angels/vampires don’t fall at her feet just because she is with the archangel Raphael. I enjoyed watching her growing relationship with Raphael too. Their banter was great.
The end fight was kind of abrupt and anticlimactic but overall I enjoyed book 2 in this series.

My second, and last, foray into paranormal romance, or the romance genre in general. I don't know why the guys in this genre always have to be heartless, arrogant, possessive, assholes that can kill with the twitch of their little finger, and the girls have to love them for it. This book was about 2 parts story, 98 parts "oh my god, I am soo horny and soo in lurvve". Not my thing. Illium was my favorite character until he was turned into yet another heartless killing machine.

I almost can’t even talk about this book without my chest hurting. I loved it so much!
Nalini’s description of the refuge and angel lore was so intriguing in this book. The angel society is so unique. Wings of different colors??? SO COOL. Baby angels were precious. Sam <3
Elena learning how to be an angel was a really seamless build from the first book. Raphael and Elena’s relationship got way deeper in this sequel, which I really appreciated and connected to.

Elena has finally woke up from the coma in which she fell after the battle against Uram. However, when she wakes up she's not a vampire as she's feared but an angel. Now Elena needs to adapt to this new life. She's also the only angel who has been created, and her and Raphael have all eyes on them. Especially Lijuan's who got interested in them and now that she has evolved she's almost unstoppable.
