This was such a good book! I am not always the biggest fantasy fan but I loved how this book felt real I think the map might have helped me with that in the front of the book it helped me understand where I was in the story.

Sylvia and Arin are officially the blueprint for what I want to see in my FMC and MMC in all fantasy books going forward. The repressed anger, broodiness, and hint of sass that exists in every interaction is *chef’s kiss*. 

The plot unfolds slowly for the reader, we are dropped into an Egyptian-inspired fantasy world that has already experienced strife and a genocide against the magic-wielding Jasadi people. Pieces of lore are developed slowly rather than dumped in all at once. The mysteries of what really happened and what motivates each individual character kept me intrigued from start to finish. Such a good time, I need to know what happens next!
