SARA! You fucking queen. This was phenomenal. When I tell you I never wanted to put this down. The story is perfection. Her writing is gorgeous. THE END??? I’m glad I waited for book 2 to begin book 1 because I would have been staring at the wall for days. I am sat. I just know book 2 is going to have me sobbing.

Glad I finally got around to reading this one as it's been on my TBR since it was released.
I wish we had more time with the non-human monsters, as they seemed pretty interesting.
Sylvia breaks convention in some ways. Yes, she's cold and hardened by her circumstances, but she grows and learns. She's tall, and not some frail flower of a girl that somehow overpowers everyone around her. She's flawed but capable. She has actual friends who have their own personalities! I quite enjoyed her.
There was a certain amount of predictability, but I didn't mind so much as the journey was still made interesting.
There are a few chapters from a different perspective. They were fine, but I wonder how necessary they truely were.
I find myself wanting to read the next book sooner rather than later.

I thought this was a good balance of fantasy and romance. I really appreciated that this was a slow burn. It was cheesy sometimes but I think the overall plot and world building covered for the cheesiness. I think the way the world was build was great! It wasn't given all at once, but was told to us through expressions and comparisons the characters and shown through the setting. I love Sefa and Marek and that they stay in the book . I hope that I see them again in the second book! I liked that what Sylvia wanted what wasn't what many jasadis wanted. I liked that she had to relearn her kingdom as an adult opposed to her knowledge as a child. I thought Soraya was a really interesting character. She's a character I would usually root for in these books, but here she's a villian and I wanted to know more about her. Arin seemed a typical enemies to lovers male lead. I hope we'll see more of him in book 2. Though, I did love most of his scenes with Sylvia! I can see where some of book 2 is going. I'm excited to read it!!
