This could have been a cute story, and in a lot of ways, it was. However, Drew (lead male) was a pediatrician and broke confidentiality in a HUGE way. His 4 year old patient's conversation skills left me wondering if the author had ever even spent time with a child, let alone a sick one? And finally, the mother of the sick child actually said, "PLAYING THE CANCER CARD," which?????? I have an incredibly hard time believing that anyone with a newly diagnosed kid would say that!

Then there was Alexa's (lead female) neurotic relationship/ breakup talk, the self-hating talk about every starchy thing consumed, the general jealous not-good-enough self-talk. My goodness! For a black woman in her 30s with a successful career and friends galore... she needed a therapist more than a love interest. It just wasn't believable.

And the simpering and the crying and oh my goodness, the amount of alcohol consumed. Yeah. Therapists all around, or that relationship was certainly heading for a crash and burn.

So, points for a diverse cast of characters and interesting scenery. Fun dialogue, good message about troubled teens. But points taken away for all of the other stuff. Mostly, that last conversation with the patient's mom and the doctor. Sooooooo cringe.

Gostei muito de como abordaram as pautas raciais das mais diversas representatividades, as questões de confiança, de corpos, de vulnerabilidades psicológicas e sociais...

This was enjoyable to read. I thought it was interesting to start the book with the two mcs meeting and I wish they communicated better (major are we dating or are we not dating back miscommunication that felt really stupid) but their relationship was cute.  overall this is just a basic fake dating romance so no complaints from me

I definitely know that I love this author and I knew that this book was going to be a cute love story that was very lighthearted. It definitely was but it was enjoyable to follow along with their story. The only unbelievable thing was traveling back-and-forth from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Luckily they had jobs where they got paid a lot of money but it’s still slightly unbelievable. But I’m glad they got their happy ending.

CW: alcohol, mentions of food, miscommunication, medical content, cancer, mention of car accident but not graphic,

I'm very disappointed in this book since I loved Jasmine Guillory's book, Party of Two. But, god Drew was so insufferable to read and the miscommunication is not romantic, it's infuriating to read. I loved the beginning of the book but like other reviews I've read, I have to agree - the middle really needs to be more fleshed out and there's barely any character development. What I liked about Party of Two is how the sex scenes were broken up but with The Wedding Date, there's a pattern of sex > fighting >  miscommunication between characters > they meet up again and the cycle continues. It felt like the plot was very much lacking the middle.

Also, just something I'm personally not okay with is using "depressed" in place of sad. Being depressed vs being sad about a situation are very different things. That's something I caught and it put a sour taste in my mouth.

This isn't one I'd recommend but I will be picking up Guillory's other works! However, if you like miscommunication, you might like this! This one was just not it for me.
