This could have been a cute story, and in a lot of ways, it was. However, Drew (lead male) was a pediatrician and broke confidentiality in a HUGE way. His 4 year old patient's conversation skills left me wondering if the author had ever even spent time with a child, let alone a sick one? And finally, the mother of the sick child actually said, "PLAYING THE CANCER CARD," which?????? I have an incredibly hard time believing that anyone with a newly diagnosed kid would say that!

Then there was Alexa's (lead female) neurotic relationship/ breakup talk, the self-hating talk about every starchy thing consumed, the general jealous not-good-enough self-talk. My goodness! For a black woman in her 30s with a successful career and friends galore... she needed a therapist more than a love interest. It just wasn't believable.

And the simpering and the crying and oh my goodness, the amount of alcohol consumed. Yeah. Therapists all around, or that relationship was certainly heading for a crash and burn.

So, points for a diverse cast of characters and interesting scenery. Fun dialogue, good message about troubled teens. But points taken away for all of the other stuff. Mostly, that last conversation with the patient's mom and the doctor. Sooooooo cringe.

I think I’ve grown out of the meet cute circumstance fake date romance stuff. I honestly just found it boring. I was just sitting there two chapters in thinking “why am I reading this?”

Adorable. I wish it was a smidge spicier but there’s truly nothing to complain about here. I love that this has all the trappings of a good rom com without the standard tropes, it sorta starts with a fake dating trope but it’s immediately tossed out the window, these people know what they want! The instant gratification is a pleasant change from the norm. Very cute!

Alexa is a beautiful, skilled lawyer and Drew is a beautiful pediatrician. A meet-cute in a stopped elevator leads to Drew begging Alexa to be his wedding date for the weekend, so he doesn't have to deal with the singles there. Now that I'm 1/3 of the way through the book, that part is over and we've moved into a weird little mating dance that has me rolling my eyes every few minutes.

The Wedding Date is dual POV, which is fine, except their povs are exactly the same - "I want them, but I bet they don't want me." It's a, frankly, bananas vibe, bc they're having sex like rabbits and it's been all of a day. They're both fully grown adults with massively important jobs, but somehow can't be bothered to tell each other how they feel and actually communicate with one another? Please give me a break.
