I was able to connect with this book at several levels. It addressed some of the questions that have been tormenting my trying-to-become-an-adult mind for long - questions that I was not able to frame in proper sentences. They were just lingering around like unspoken thoughts. I am happy to have stumbled upon this book.

Am I a happier person now? Maybe. But, I am better positioned than ever before to make my life better.

From a substance point of view, this is a great book. A good resource for anyone who is in the process of reinventing themselves.

From a writing point of view, this book could have been better. I found some sections, especially the youth losing his temper with the philosopher to be artificial and lacking genuinity. Given the complexity of the topic, the book does fare well otherwise.

There is a second part to this which I'll be reading after a while. For now I want the heaviness of the Adlerian Psychology to sink in slowly and do its charm, like slow medicine.

Very outdated and patronizing view of humanity and trauma. I was starting to try to read faster to get it over at 25% due to being annoyed and decided not to.

I really liked the somewhat radical ideas in this book. These include having the courage of being disliked, living life as a dance rather than a means to an end, separating your opinions and wills from everyone else, etc.

This is a series of dialogues between a philosopher and a student. I listened to the audiobook version and the tonality of the philosopher is condescending and pretentious. The tone of the students voice is arrogant and obnoxious. This detracted from my listening experience and invoked annoyance in me.

I also think that explaining these ideas through dialogue was unnecessary. This book could’ve been a lot shorter.

Also these ideas are presented as a comprehensive life philosophy. These ideas are all based from Adlerian psychology. Don’t get seduced by one school of thought. This isn’t the one true philosophy. It just has some ideas that are pretty badass.
