Absolutely as hot as the photo on the cover! Overall I enjoyed this one more than book one, even though I've given them the same rating.
There's far less angst in this one, for most of the book the MCs are happily together just getting on with having some of that amazing sex LA Witt is so, so good at writing.
There's little in the way of outside forces creating tensions, it all comes from the relationship development itself and even that isn't particularly bad.
Jon needed his eyes opening to see what he was potentially throwing away and Matt needed to wake up and realise he wanted more and that he wouldn't wait around. Thankfully some proverbial head knocking resulted in some top class grovelling and an epic HFN nudging into a HEA.
Nice to see Colin and Daniel from book one not only still together but thriving and I'm loving the book three pairing.

Plot in a nutshell: navy pilot with commitment-phobia loses a silly bet and needs to get a tattoo. Tattoo artists who has recently started to doubt his sexuality trips over himself at the sight of said navy pilot. They decide to become no-strings-attached fuck buddies. You can probably imagine where this goes and how it ends.
The predictabilty wasn't my problem with this. I picked up a romance with a well used trope, I knew what I was getting into. The execution wasn't even terribly bad. But to my own shock I discovered that there's actually something worsen than "bad". It's boring. This book was so incredibly boring and bland, it took me a while to get through it even though I listened to it on audio and upped the pace. I also didn't vibe well with the narrator. The characters didn't have any depth and the story telling made the impression of moving down a list to check off point after point (date 1, date 2, ...) with one too many sex scenes as interludes. Just not for me, although it had potential to become a fun and interesting story.

Now this, this is the L.A. Witt I know and love.
The first one I gave a 3.5 star review for because something was missing - well that thing was not missing from this book.
Jon and Matt start out as fuck buddies - and the sex did not disappoint throughout this novel, which made me giddy because a big thing for me with the first one was that the sex didn't do much for me. But whoo boy did it do it for me in this one.
Matt and Jon had something special, and I loved how seamlessly they fell into a relationship - even though Jon hadn't wanted to admit it. But they were natural together, their chemistry was sizzling.
We didn't see much of Colin and Daniel, which I was okay with but also kind of "huh" about because their book ended kind of abruptly and while I didn't love their book, I did like it, so I would have liked to have seen more of them together, like an epilogue woven throughout this book to get a better sense of them together together. But I also didn't mind because again, I didn't love their book, and I was loving Matt and Jon so much, so it was oaky at the same time that we only got a tidbit here and there about them. Enough to know they were happy and together, so that was nice :)
I had no problem with Matt and Jon's ending in this one - it felt complete, like they had earned their happy ending, that they established the parameters of their relationship and understood each other and cleared up the air, everything. And it had felt like they had been in a relationship for most of the book anyway that it felt more like them getting back together at the end instead of together for the first time.
And I guess I'm sitting here trying to figure out if anything truly bothered me and...not really. This was an awesome, good read, a fun read, with interesting characters that hooked me into the story - a story which I had to put down at 2:30 in the morning so I could get some sleep.
I loved this book, and it is definitely better than the first. I would go as far as to say that if you guys haven't read the first - you really don't need to, although it was enjoyable. And this can be read as a standalone so you won't be missing anything by reading this without the first. Definitely recommend this one <3

DNF after the seventh chapter. The story telling didn't draw me in and I lost interest. The MCs weren't that great. Both men were manwhores plus had histories of non commitment. Jon couldn't even be loyal to his own squadron. Promiscuity would be a difficult addiction to break. Matt's bicuriousness just wasn't convincing enough. His sexuality needed more background.
3 Stars and I was super conflicted over this. I throughly enjoyed the first instalment so hopped on over to this one without reading the summary — I probably should have because I think I would have known I wouldn’t enjoy it as much. I almost DNF at 30% but stuck it out and while I did pick up I started skimming a little.
I think I struggled most with this story because the characterisation wasn’t as strong for Jon and Matt as it was for Colin and Daniel in the first book. I found Jon’s cold feet and commitment phobia quite annoying and the trope of fuck buddies in this felt too same same from the previous book so I started to get bored.
Matt was enjoyable and I felt for him when he was trying to connect with Jon and work out who he was as a bisexual man. I felt like he shouldn’t be with Jon, I don’t know, I guess I didn’t really buy into them as a couple. The sex scenes were hot but there was just a lack of intimacy and romance that had me humming with indecision on whether to finish it.
Obviously, Jon sorts his shit out in the end and realises he shouldn’t be comparing himself to other people and cutting out close relationships for fear he’ll get hurt (because that’s stupid) but I just idk I didn’t enjoy it.

4.5/5
An eARC of this book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.
To be clear, this is not a sequel to Colin and Daniel's story (although they do appear). This is about a Navy Fighter pilot called Jon and Matt, the tattoo artist that works in Skin Deep Inc.
Matt gave his ex girlfriend and best friend her birthday present. But the thing is, it made him question the truth of him calling himself a heterosexual man. And that is not appeased when Jon comes into the shop to get a tattoo, as a matter of fact, Matt is now almost 100% sure that women are not the only ones he is sexually attracted to.
Long story short, if you read the first book it goes almost exactly like that, but of course, it has its own plot and details. For those who have not, here is the gist of the thing: Matt blows off Jon-the-manwhore because he "isn't gay", but regrets it and doesn't know how to get him to come back. Jon comes back, and they hook up, and many things happen (including Matt bailing again, coming back, and them going into a "no strings" relationship). Everyone knows how that ends, right?
As a matter of fact, everyone does have an opinion as to what will become of their relationship. And it really is kind of blurry the line between "strings" and "no strings" for these two. It's cute, emotional, funny and it makes you want them to suck it up and deal with reality. I mean, really? Have you submerged yourself so much in denial that you've blinded yourself?
So, here's the thing: an occurrence in the story has made Jon sink even lower. He was getting closer to the surface, but then this happening pulled him under again. Back to zero we go. It's so frustrating how Witt can so perfectly describe his thoughts. You can see Jon slamming the walls over his feelings just because they are getting too "relationship-y". You can pretty much see how this ends.....
Amazing plot, wonderous story. I'm clawing at time so it can move faster in order for me to read Witt's next book for this series. Sure, the structure is basically the same as her previous book, but that is the structure of 70% of romance books: see you, like you, get cold feet/ feel insecure, walks away, regrets it, goes back and beg, end up together again, happy ending/sad ending (depending on the type of book, a sad ending is better).

Classic LA Witt tale with lots of steam about Matt, a tattoo artist and Jon, a Navy pilot, who start a friends with benefits relationship. As with many of her books with this theme, Ms. Witt does a masterful job giving us a look into the fuck buddies' developing relationship and the realization for both that tears them apart. Couple of pet peeves - I absolutely love the steam but there was way too much. I am shocked that I am saying that since I need the smexy in my MM romance reads. But in this case, I need a little more banter and dialogue and fewer "gasping orgasms" lol. Another - there was a little too much repetition. We learn that Matt's early years were spent telling the world he is not gay. Okay, fine. But we get that explanation multiple times through his conversations with different people. And finally, and I found this in the Anchor Point series. Ms. Witt clearly knows her military jargon but I get a little lost when it's buried in dialogue. When Jon uses the term "RIO" to describe Nate and it eventually gets explained a few pages later, funnily enough, in a passage where Jon is thinking that he wasn't in the mood to explain the finer points of Nate's job. Wait, explain it to me!! What does it stand for?? And she uses "cover." Only because I read the Anchor Point series do I know what that means. But it's like this internal language that only a few special people know. I especially loved the scene when Matt makes that decision. Oh that broke my heart. But the ending was lovely, if a little jizz-soaked. LOL!!
