One of my reading goals for this year was to re-read all 8 books in the "Anne of Green Gables," series. I really enjoyed re-reading them all, especially "Rilla of Ingleside."

I did not enjoy the arc of childhood joy and discovery and wonder of AOGG to Anne’s children going off to fight and die in WWI, but at least I can say I’ve read the books now (RIP Anne with an E)

Since the last couple of books have been a bit disappointing, I wasn’t expecting too much of this one. As such, I was delighted to find that this is possibly my second-favourite of all the Anne books (following only the original). I don’t think I ever expected to read a war novel when I fell in love with Anne a decade ago, but here I finally am. I cried as I came to the end (mostly because of dear Dog Monday) and felt so much for these wonderful characters! As a Canadian woman, this felt almost personal and was an incredible insight to the home front of World War I in Canada.
