I must say that this was an incredible book. This series has just gotten better and better! I find myself never wanting to put it down and I cant stop turning the pages! This is one of the best supernatural mysteries I have read, and there are a lot of them! This book had me on my toes! I guessed who did right away, but I thought I wouldn't be right, because I never am, but I was, and it was still a little shocking! It was really cool watching Anita get into a relationship and learn about obstacles she had to overcome and more obstacles that she still has to overcome. This book never slowed down, and it constantly grabbed my attention. This book had everything, jealousy, romance, mystery, action, couple laughs. It was just an awesome read! I don't know how this series could ever get better, but I say that every time, and every time it gets better! The characters were all well developed, and I feel like I know them all personally, and every time I read these books the characters all become more lovable, or more annoying, and some even a little funny. It's really cool to watch the characters, new and old, grow and change as the books do. This is a really great series, and Anita is kick-ass! I can't wait to read the next!

I think this one turned out to be one of my favorites so far, I’m not sure what it is about it that I like so much. Maybe because it’s finally starting to get some romance. Or because it included the shapeshifting and a sprinkle of witchcraft. I have to say though Richard is super dreamy and I feel like they make such a good pair. He’s her polar opposite, she just has to get past the whole not human enough thing. And who wouldn’t want a super old vampire and a sexy hair lycanthrope fighting over you?!? Hello!!!

There was a lot going on in this book which I think made it hard to always follow along but I think the author did a really good job of tying everything together. I also really enjoyed the struggles Anita had with her relationship with Richard. It really forced her to reflect more on her beliefs and biases. I’m definitely interested in seeing where her dating life goes in the next book. The same thing can be said for her job. I appreciated watching her trying and balance between working with the police and also being a civilian where at many points she does many things that would be considered illegal.
Anita Blake books always get 5 stars from me. My favorite part of this was the romantic build up that's getting undeniable

It's difficult to "enjoy" this book if only because of all of the trauma that [a:Laurell K. Hamilton|9550|Laurell K. Hamilton|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1399387919p2/9550.jpg]'s heroine, Anita Blake, goes through in order to solve the crime. Functionally, Anita is a raiser of zombies and a killer of vampires, but she is really a detective who tenaciously bites down on each clue until it takes her to the culprit.
This novel takes us deeper in the vampire and lycanthrope sub-cultures to a level even past that which [a:Mike Carey|9018|Mike Carey|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1334894864p2/9018.jpg] went in his Felix Castor books. I'm not sure what to anticipate in her later novels: even deeper? Is that possible?
I like the developing relationship between Anita and Richard and all of the melodrama of determining where both of them were on the human <--> monster spectrum.
Interesting. A wereswan. Who knew?
Some familiar characters (Rafael, Edward, Dolph, and even Zerbrowski) return. Notice that I didn't include Jean-Claude in the list; he's back but not a tame member of the cast.
