“I got schooled this year

and undeniably in love
with.
And he taught me the most

Layken Cohen doesn’t like the cold. Layken doesn’t like change. Layken has been numb since the death of her father. Layken is about to find out what it is to feel something different.
Will Cooper has his hands full with his little brother. Will loves to do Slam Poetry. Will is Layken’s neighbor. Will Copper is about to be thrown a curveball.
When Layken, her mother Julia and brother Kel, move to Ypsilanti she isn’t at all excited. Layken is still trying to come to terms with being moved from her hometown and leaving everything her father was behind. She cannot wait to graduate and be able to go back to Texas. When Kel catches the attention of Caulder, the boy next door, Lake is about to find out that there might be something worth staying for in Ypsilanti.
Will Cooper is trying to get his life in order and take care of his little brother Caulder. Will loves Slam Poetry and his brother more than anything in life. When his brother makes friends with the new neighbor he doesn’t expect to be drawn to the little boys’ sister.
After Will and Lake automatically hit it off and are falling for each other quickly. But when Will and Lake discover that they are more than just neighbors, things go downhill. As they both come to terms with what life has thrown at them they realize that sometimes you have to push against life and its obstacles.
If you haven’t read this, do so now! This is truly a great book about love, life, loss and the therapy that writing invokes. I enjoyed this book from the first page. Every character was amazing in their own ways.
A few things I enjoyed:
1. The Slam Poetry. It was AWESOME!-I love poetry and reading about Slam Poetry was really cool. As well at the ones the characters performed!
2.Eddie- She was incredible! That was one girl that had many obstacles thrown her way and overcame them all. And her boyfriend and foster dad were AMAZING.
3.Eddie’s Birthday Scene- I cried so much it was crazy. It was that beautiful. That heartwarming. The PERFECT!
4.Will’s Slam Poetry-His poetry was very heartwarming and very real which made me love him even more.
5.Caulder and Kel- There relationship was so innocent and so bonded. I loved that they instantly became best friends and that Caulder was there for Kel through the good and bad.
This book is to BUTTERFLYING(have to read to find out)fantastic! Pick itup now! I dare you! :)

This was a fun book! I think it was probably more unique when it was published than now. Because I read it in 2019 and it felt very cliche and overdone.
I ADORED the characters and my heart broke for them. I was glued to the page and couldn't wait to see where they ended up. I yelled at my book and was angry at Colleen Hoover for hurting my babies. And I was satisfied with the ending.
But I didn't love it enough to read the rest of the series. It doesn't feel like a book that deserves a sequel. Also, it is definitely not one of Hoover's bests. I like her adult books much more.
Still a great story and masterfully written, as always!

So… One thing about Colleen is, she always seems to make me cry. Which I did again, while reading Slammed.
This book follows Layken, who has just moved to a town with her mother and brother, Kel, since her father passed away. She happens to fall for her neighbour after spending 3 days together and then finds out the breaking news. He’s actually a teacher at her school!! This causes problems for both Lake and Will who both share mutual feelings.
Lake also becomes rebellious when moving and things just aren’t the same since her father passed away. She thinks her mum is keeping something from her and thinks it’s an affair. However, Will makes her see sense.
I love the flow of the book, it just flows beautifully and makes it such an easy read, as do all other Colleen’s books. The book was very emotional, it made me laugh out loud and also sob. Thanks, Colleen.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves romance books and is a fan of Colleen. Read the triggers before reading the book. I can’t wait for the next book to see what it has instal for us, following Will and Lake.

Dude, I cried. Will is book boyfriend. And Eddie is the kind of best friend I wish I had in high school.
Really enjoyed this fast and fun read. I was satisfied with the story, but did not yearn to read the subsequent titles in this series.
I flew through this and ate it up. Brought me to tears and smiling all over again. Didn’t like the age difference but the romance between these too are so cute. For her debut, this was well done. I’ve been a fan of Colleen since 2020 booktok but don’t like her anymore. her writing style is made for a quick read and got me back into romance.
started this book, put it down for days and then pure boredom persuaded me to finish reading it. Even though I absolutely hated it in the beginning, it became more passable by the time I finished. Probably won't be continuing the series though.
I read this book in one day and all I can say is that this is only the 2nd book I've ever read to make me ugly cry; The Notebook being the first about 20 years ago. I loved the characters, especially Will and Kel and Eddie. I could easily put myself in Layken's place and it was like I was feeling her feelings. You will not regret reading this book!
