I like spice. I even like books that have more spice than plot. It just got boring and predictable that every single development, major and minor, was going to revolve around some kind of sex and I gave up.

So, this was a very different story. The author has a great imagination and the heroine seemed a smart cookie. The world building is immense and a little confusing at times. The descriptions of the goblins and other characters were terrific.

I still do not understand the whole "bodyguards can't have sex thing" I thought the Queen had a kid and was bound to that man then? And adultery from there if she slept with anyone else? Why was she taking lovers then, was it because her Consort was with them??? It was confusing.

Lots of heat since it seems most everyone wants to have sex with Merry. She is Saint Merry, who bestows compassionate hugs, kisses and sex on the hurting and lonely- for what harm is it in sharing your body with others in compassion? Sets us up for a harem.

I know that if I put down a book and decide to play video games, it is not a good sign. I was not in a hurry to finish it, or even compelled to finish it fast because I HAD TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS- no, that was not this book. I knew it would be a long slog since my kindle said 9 hours to read it but I didn't expect to feel ok with walking away halfway thru it.

That being said, I will probably buy the next book and see where it goes. :)

This book was amazing and I wasn't expecting that. I couldn't put it down. I can't wait to start the next one.
