Not as impressive as her first imo. But I do like her writing & characters. The plot just wasn’t AS good as the first. Will keep reading her releases though. :)

Nowhere Left to Hide was a fast-paced read that kept me turning the pages. I really appreciated the momentum—it didn’t drag, and the story moved quickly, which I enjoyed. The plot twist caught me off guard in the best way; I had a feeling something was coming, but the way it played out still managed to surprise me.

That said, the writing style wasn’t really for me. It felt a bit unpolished, almost like it was written by a teenager—some of the dialogue and inner monologues didn’t land quite right. It pulled me out of the story a few times.

Overall, a solid thriller with good pacing and a twisty reveal, but the writing style held it back for me. If you like quick reads with a little chaos and surprise, it might still be worth checking out.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wow, if you enjoyed That’s Not My Name, then you will absolutely love No Place Left To Hide! I did not foresee the plot twist; it left me speechless… technically not speechless, I kept saying, “OMG.” I loved the characters, the plot, and the ending. I can’t wait to see what this author has in store next!

No Place Left to Hide by Megan Lally was suspenseful-ish, but ultimately meh. I had an hour and a half left on the audio book when it got automatically returned, then had to put it on hold and wait a week to get it back, which didn’t help either.

I went in hoping for something twisty and intense, but this ended up feeling more like a long-winded YA soap opera with plot holes/inconsistencies and OTT moments, plus a side of chaos.

Sure, there’s some suspense, which are probably some of the highlights in the book, but there’s not satisfying climax. There is a cop car getting smashed, a white Bronco (OJ Simpson nod) flying around like it’s in a Fast & Furious spin-off, and a kind-of-unhinged cast of characters, but none of it really added up to anything that surprised, shocked, or impressed me. The big “twist” around Jena (in my head, always Jenna, thanks audiobook) and Dylan made way more sense than being any kind of shock. It felt way more like, “Oh… okay,” than a gasp-worthy moment. And honestly, I barely even knew who Felix was. Apparently Jenna’s boyfriend.

The book ends with a secure/encrypted chat transcript epilogue (or final chapter idk it was audiobook book and I am too lazy to look back), which felt like a lazy info dump and pretty obvious from the start. It tried to be clever, but mostly came off forced and kind of cringe.

Brooke Goodwin was just the worst. Immature, entitled, and not in a compelling or redeemable way. Her whole “I’m going to Yale but I’ll be reckless and ruin lives along the way” vibe didn’t help. Claire Heck? Also awful. And Brandon Heck? Terrifying in theory, but doesn’t actually do anything… so, like… was he scary? Just a diversion?

Even the subplot with Brooke’s dad made zero sense. I don’t understand that he planted fake evidence to destroy a teenage girl’s life and her father’s entire career, just because his daughter is feeling petty? What?? That felt so over-the-top and implausible it was hard to stay immersed.

The writing itself wasn’t anything to rave about. The dialogue between characters was often cringe-worthy, the high school drama was painfully exaggerated, and the pacing dragged. I would have been heavily skimming if it was a physical book, and I was always at least at 2.5x audiobook speed just to get through it.

It is a forgettable thriller with flat characters, dry execution, and enough plot holes to fill up that white Bronco and Brooke’s dump Subaru (also, why DID she drive a Subaru?). All said, not the worst thing I’ve ever read.
