Love books about books, or dark reads with wildly unhealthy ways to deal with trauma? Then you might enjoy this one! The world building is excellent, and it was interesting seeing the dual timeline play out. Things were drawn out just a little too long and started to lose my interest toward the end. Warnings for suicide, sexual abuse, rape, and others.

this book is beautiful. it's a fantastical mystery which unfolds around a gay love story, with issues of homophobia and classism in the characters' lives. my partner and i took turns reading this to each other and found it gorgeous and intriguing, and breathtaking at times. we read it twice (so far). unfortunately a by and large white cast of characters, from what i remember (it's been a while).

This was absolutely wonderful. The story was so captivating I finished the book in two sittings (due to the necessity of sleep). I kind of felt the plot twist coming, but still enjoyed every single page of this immaculately written book. The author managed to add small details of thoughts and deeds that made it feel so human and real and created a deep understanding for the character(s) and their motives. The switch of perspective towards the end made it all the more captivating. The story itself makes you stop and question morals and the very concept of what is ethical. I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
