Penny is found standing by her dead birth mother- holding the knife, dripping in blood. She has no memory of that night.
Penny has 3 alters - Eve, Chloe and Ruby.
Grace, Penny's mother, devotes her energy to Penny's defense, desperate for any information.
I thought it was too long. Great build up - slow burn, author spent serious time building characters and suspense. But such a long book.
This book exams mental health and family dynamics. So much guilt - both parents and children.

Wow! This book was completely fascinating, not only from a psychological perspective, but also a legal one! I would have liked if it dived a bit deeper in how exactly would you prosecute or defend someone with multiple personalities? Especially if only one of the personalities was "on trial".
My biggest critique about the book was that I predicted the twists before they happened - in one case really early in the book, and that's always disappointing. The other thing that would have been helpful is at the beginning of each chapter, there was a sub-title of who's point-of-view that chapter was written as.
But overall the plot had me sucked in, and I definitely want to read more from DJ Palmer!

I received this book as an Advanced Reader's Copy (ARC) through NetGalley. I received this copy free in exchange for my honest review.
Grace’s daughter Penny is in Edgewood, a facility for the criminally insane, awaiting her trial for murdering her Birth Mother Rachel. But Penny isn’t just Penny, she is Eve, Ruby and Chloe too. Who murdered Rachel, and is Penny really Disassociate Identity Disorder (DID) or as the head Edgewood doctor thinks Antisocial Personality Disorder, ie Penny is an expert liar.
This is the second DJ Palmer book I have read, and he has become a favorite author. I love the twists and turns of his stories. The characters are all so engaging, and make you want to read about them. This was unputdownable for me. I found myself wanting to know the next twist throughout my day, and I couldn’t wait to read more, even if it was only 5 mins while my coffee brewed.

Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for letting me read this book prior to its publication in exchange for an honest review.
The Perfect Daughter was quite the page turner! It kept me guessing all the way to the end. I always figure out the twists and turns before they happen. Though I had a few of these pegged it was still quite the surprise ending for me! I always enjoy DJ Palmer's books because I can never quite figure it all out. I loved the in depth view into DID as I haven't read many books with that topic. However I did find it to lull a little in the middle as I felt it was reading too much like a textbook and less like a thriller. All in all it did bounce back for me and I enjoyed it. I will definitely seek out more by this author in the future as I am never disappointed.
