This was interesting but I really didn’t like the ending so I ended up going with 3.5 stars instead of 4

Great piece of fiction teaching a lot about mental disorders, specifically DID. Unexpected ending!

I did not see that coming, at all.

Meet Penny. Penny has DID (dissociative identity disorder) and got adopted by the Francone family. But it's not just Penny; there's perfectionist Chloe and British Ruby too. And let's not forget about the overconfident and emotionless Eve.

When Penny is arrested for murder after being found covered in blood, with the murder weapon in her hands next to her birth mother's body; everybody assumes she did it. But Penny has vanished and Eve has taken control.

What follows is the relentless battle of a mother convincing the world her daughter is innocent. Was it an alter or was there somebody else?

I've read a lot of who-done-it stories and I love when I haven't figured it out by the time the big reveal shows up. To say I was dumbfounded is probably an understatement.

Thank you to my best friend for forcing (as if that was hard) me to read this book, after you devoured it yourself.

This book was a wild ride and I was here for every moment of it. I did not see the ending coming and when it arrived, I literally gasped out loud. The character development and the plot twists were absolutely brilliant.

I love psychological thrillers and this one was well-written with lots of suspense and interesting characters. So why only 3 stars? Two reasons, really: 1) the book centers on a diagnosis of DID (dissociative identity disorder, previously multiple personality disorder), a controversial illness even for many psychiatrists; 2) the mystery is too neatly wrapped up with a "least likely to commit the crime" twist that was disappointing and too convenient.

I do not doubt that the author did a lot of research on DID but I still don't know if I would believe it is a true condition. I was intrigued by the story of an abandoned little girl with an unknown past. That situation provided plenty of doubt that she had committed the murder she was arrested for. I've read other books where the main character has DID and most followed the TV tropes so this was at least well -done.

5 Snaps for The Perfect Daughter!! D J Palmer you cheeky author!! You had me to the end!! I had a mental picture of the victim in the middle of a board and every single character on there with reasons why they would have been the killer. Except for the ACTUAL killer!! And of course I’m seriously tired this morning because I stayed up late last night because I had to finish. Loved it!!!!

When Grace Falcone is confronted by police asking about her daughter, Penny, she is confused. Penny has been arrested for the murder of Rachel Boyd, and Grace cannot believe it! Penny, however, is covered in blood, and can't remember anything about that night. Grace contacts a lawyer, Greg Navarro, who hit her car a month earlier. Greg was a defense attorney, and agreed to take Penny's case.
Penny suffered from Dissociative Identity Disorder, and when Grace gets to the police station, Eve is the identity present. Eve is tough, unlike Penny. There is also Chloe and Ruby, whose identities come out later. Grace is distraught, and Penny is transferred to a state hospital.
After 1.5 years, Penny's trial is upcoming, but Grace, along with Penny's new doc, Mitch McHugh, believe that Penny may be innocent, due to something uncovered during therapy. Meanwhile, Jack and Ryan, Grace's sons, are taking Penny's arrest differently. Jack is making a film about Penny, while Ryan wants nothing to do with her.
As the trial takes place, secrets are revealed, and we learn who killed Rachel.
A good thriller.
