This gave such similar vibes to Terry Pratchett's The Color of Magic, it was wild. Loved it a lot!

A quote I liked:

"To understand pretending... is to conquer all barriers of time and space," (p. 18).

I really had no idea what to expect apart from ties to Rise of the Guardians with this book but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. The style of writing reminded me both of Lemony Snicket and C.S. Lewis. I was very amused by the chapter titles and the story was very fun. I also enjoyed the illustrations. I'm looking forward to reading the next two volumes! More Pitch, please!

The vocab in this book is so rich! The storytelling felt like a classic children's story. The action was fun and fast paced.
Overall, the story left me feeling adventurous, but it wasn't very deep. The sci-fi and fantasy elements were nice, but they were a bit convoluted at times. Overall, we really enjoyed this, but it didn't blow me away.

bought for Xander and I read it before he did. Love this book so much, I hope there are 10 more! It is a very quick read - action packed and sure to appeal to kids who get bogged down if there are too many boring parts. There are no boring parts in this book. And so many sly jokes that I was laughing out loud over and over.

Great adventure story. Looking forward to recommending it to those who have forgotten it.

I saw the Jack Frost movie several years ago and wanted to read the Guardian series ever since. This one was pretty exciting to read and full of fun snippets of folklore but I wouldn't recommend it.
