Probably one of the most tense action thriller manga I've ever read. Special thanks to Cat Anderson for the translation: everything felt so real, even if some of the lines were a little on the nose about the point on activism and conflating activism, rights for minority groups, and extremists. The lines felt almost hilariously authentically Gen-Z/TikTok addicted, and that was for the better --- it showed the kind of behavior a lot of students would show in a polarized climate where people believe that "tolerance has gone too far" to the point of discriminating against the half-human half-chimpanzee Charlie. Arguably, the action in this series is almost as, if not more intense, than a series with a similar art style I'd like to point out: Baki, though Baki-Bros wouldn't agree with me. The scene where Charlie meets up with his ape mother, who used to be one of the smartest apes in the world, but was now brain damaged due to her troubled miscarriage, was also a poignant scene, and Charlie's apathy towards her dilemma really shows how "inhuman" he is, though a lot of humans, I might add, share a similar logical viewpoint to and lack of empathy as Charlie does. Really, his neuropsychology doesn't make him "inhuman" in my eyes compared to full humans; rather, he functions as an analogue for neurodevelopmentally disabled kids who are in some ways like other people, but also out of step with them (my personal viewpoint as an autistic, ADHD and OCD person).

An interesting concept but the art, especially the faces, is a but jarring.

This was such a good manga! We follow Charlie who is half human, half chimpanzee as he starts going to school for the first time. His adoptive parents are worried about him being out and about with regular humans since he's only been with them for most of his life. During Charlie's first day of school there is a terrorists attack by the group ALA - The Animal Liberation Alliance - who are animal rights extremists. These are the same people that broke Charlie out of the lab where his mom was being held captive while she was pregnant with him. Now The ALA want Charlie to come back with them and become a part of their organization. Will Charlie join them?

Thanks NetGalley and publisher for allowing me to read this manga for free.

I gotta say, it seems to be a pretty decent manga about a humanzee (chimpanzee and human hybrid) named Charlie who just wants to fit in the human race just as much as everyone else but has human villians wanting to badly kill him after a sudden terrorist attack that blames the monkey race for the cause. I also thought his sidekick human friend Lucy was pretty cool and a likeable character.

Definitely check this manga out if you want some monkey business 🐒🦍🦧

Very reflecting, being asked questions by an outsider like the humanzee. Lots to think about, very interesting. Nicely detailed art, good action scenes. There's a lot going on in this first volume, and I look forward to seeing more.
