I'm clearly not the right audience for this book, and I still think young boys and girls would greatly take lessons from it. However, I wasn't a fan on how the story so quickly wrapped up and I felt a lot of development was missing. I've seen more detail and construction in even shorter novels. On and all I won't think too deep, it's a story about growing up and it's well done. Also wasn't a big fan on how fatphobic all the characters are; I know the book is a couple of decades old but it made me uncomfortable to read how all of the bad characters are described as flabby, giants, fat, etc.

Very low-key novel about two kids using a make-believe land to learn how to navigate life. It’s a little slow to get going but the story and the writing style feel very familiar and comforting. The plot twist killed.
Spoiler No pun intended.

First time. Even having figured out what was going to happen it still fully broke me.
