I really enjoyed this book! The world building was great and there was so much detail I could imagine everything in my head. I'm usually pretty good at guessing twists but I was surprised at least 3 times in this which made it even more exciting!! Can't wait for book 2 :)

Plenty of material for another great series of the genre! Real depth being built for the main characters and a great story telling.
In fact, I was really annoyed Book 2 was not starting around the next page and the story got cut short.
One thing though, a lot of information being thrown at you from the very beginning, many names to try to catch on, maybe a few too many...

This book was not it for me, the pacing was for to fast and felt chaotic. This fast pacing was not only chaotic but made the story less believable, It took away a lot of underlying motives and word building, which whouldve made the story a better whole. Also who was the enemies? It felt flat, surtenly after reading a book like the Poppy War.
But the story idea was very nice, I did enjoyed it to some level and the book being a debut made it still quite impressive.

This book has it all, enemies to lovers, slow burn romance, hinted love triangle, a fast pace and well written world building.
The FMC is morally grey, and makes smart life saving decisions. The plot twists and turns was refreshing to see as R A Sandpiper really keeps us on our toes.
I thoroughly enjoyed and will be purchasing the second book! Definitely on the right side of Tik Tok and highly recommend supporting this indie author in their future work.

Really impressive debut novel, it was a little fast paced at times but I can’t wait for book 2!

Just want to start by saying the fact that this is a debut novel is actually incredible.
By the writing style alone you’d think the author had been doing this for a decade.
I loved this book 5⭐️ without a shadow of a doubt.
Suri isn’t your typical FMC if anything I agree with the narrative of her being selfish. She’s definitely morally grey but damn is she interesting. She also doesn’t wait around to be rescued. I love her ability to say “nah f*ck that” and do it herself.
This book is split into 3 parts and I’d say that part 1 has the most world building and information to absorb. I did have to go back a few times and double check I was following it properly. This slowed down my reading pace a bit but please don’t let that put you off. It’s a fantastic read and it definitely deserves more attention.
Can’t wait for the sequel in October but I have a feeling I’ll be rereading Pocket of Lies way before then.
*Also little side note and slight spoiler*
This is being called enemies to lovers but not in that disappointing “they’ve forgiven each other and are playing hide the sausage by chapter 2” kind of way.
Bravo to the author for actually making them enemies!
I’m guessing we will see the “lovers” part more in the sequel but who knows Kol might throw her back into the mines as he originally intended.
