Enjoyable addition, but felt a little too familiar to a previous book in the series. It also felt like it had almost too many moving pieces at times. I loved the return of some characters from previous books and hope to see more of them in the future.
Ive been with Georgie and Darcy for quite a while now. She is sweet, kind, curious, & courageous. Like when she moved from Scotland to London by herself because Fig wanted to marry her off or treat her like a nanny. She has grown more sure of herself with each mystery, handled every difficult of being a young women in this era, working, spying, being homeless, having to take care of her friends, her mother, her grandfather, her godfather, Queenie (even tho I don't know why Queenie has not grown out of her hijnxs). Sometimes you just have to accept that people are who they are and you have to love them as they are or choose to let them go.
It seems to me that Georgie doesn't let anyone go, her cast of characters all tried to make an appearance in this book (although her bestie hasn't made it in a few books now...). The first half of this story seemed to be a catch-up session on how Georgie was doing life after having her baby, which I loved because this girls' has been working hard, and a little break where no one gets murdered was nice (that only lasted for so long, btw, never fret).
Darcy seems to be trying to get his position at work so he can spend some time at home, but I still felt that he was out of the shot for most of the book. Granddad bounced as soon as Fig showed up (dont blame him) & Godfather seems to be at his house a lot more then all of Georgies adult life (I can attribute that to the love he feels for Georgie), and of course Georgie's mom had to show up as soon as the Hollywood types did.
It was interesting how everyone interacted, the Above/Below stairs guests, plus the Hollywood types. At first everyone thinks they're above it all, but I think everyone was secretly impressed with each others roles.
They mystery of the kidnapping seemed like a set up from the beginning, probably due to my 21st century sensibilities where we know that most kidnappings are done by a close family/friend... the mother seemed to relish too much in being in the spotlight & as soon as the child came back, she was too poised for her story.
With so much story time left I knew there was more to it, so when the murder happened, it was almost a relief, but then I was afraid that Georgie would have to start from the beginning with the questions. I was almost annoyed they kept going back to the new farm helpers... like is that discrimination or just convenient? probably convenience that they could connect the killer to the farm helper.
I like how Georgie likes to pretend that she is open minded and "of the people," but she sure seemed a little stuck up this time around (although, who likes people traipsing all over their home, or having to host unwelcome guests??) Maybe I just wish she was a little more honest for herself, and clap back every once in a while. If she can see that someone is snubbing her or trying to take advantage of her or her friends, she's allowed to say something biting, instead we get the inevitable "golly!"
Still I love Georgie, so I must accept her for who she is... LoL

I picked this up as a free download and it seemed like I could read the series out of order. I will definitely add more from this series.
