This was probably one of the best graphic novels I've ever read. Certainly the best adaptation of a book I've read. I love how there are distinctions between the original material, the movie, and the graphic novel. Both adaptations of the source material are truthful to the book and yet create uniquely powerful works of art.

I think I made the right choice to approach this novel through a graphic novel adaptation. I was pretty sure that the book would be darker than I would like, especially to immerse hours of my life. The graphic novel adaptation created a modern fable feel for The Road which serves to highlight the themes of morality, survival, and empathy. And the art!!! Visually, this novel is one of the most visually expressive I’ve ever read. The linework is the perfect choice to translate the broken, dark world of The Road. Excellent adaptation!

An incredible adaptation.
Manu Larcenet succeeds in capturing the desolate grace of The Road. Vast, rusting structures, empty cities full of trash and nothing else, wide open expanses painted in varying shades of grey - there's something breathtaking about a world brought to its knees, and Larcenet delivers this bittersweet beauty in every panel.
He also highlights humanity's descent into superstition and tribalism (something only vaguely described in the novel) which I appreciated as it added some haunting visual elements on top of the ragged, disheveled look of most of the characters.
All throughout this adaption you can feel Larcenet's love for the dying world of The Road.

This was drawn very well but failed to capture 90% of the book's power, which comes from Mccarthy's amazing use of language. Without the internal monologue and descriptions, it just felt very dark and silent.

This book is very heavy handed with the misery. Which I am a sucker for and yet at times it veered to being more than was probably necessary. THAT SAID! I did cry bc this book is very sad. And miserable. Ow.
