and done! this story was loaded with insane twists and i really liked it (it’s still not my favourite coben novel; i think the best one was safe or fool me once). overall its a 4.5 because of my one qualm: ||i don’t know if i missed something, but what one earth happened between david and wilde in the car accident?? wilde said something about explaining the truth to hester, but that never happened?? also i think it’s a wild coincidence that all of wilde’s circle have exorbitant knowledge into technology, tracking people, and research. i am realising that i need to find these people in my life||
Coben is one of my favorite authors! He does it again, one of his best books!
I love the characters in this book (series?). I love reading more of Hester; she's a badass! Wilde is a great character; his past is a mystery. This book includes the DNA tests and websites that help you match with relatives. Used by many adoptees looking for their biological parents or other wanting to trace their family tree. Wilde takes the plunge and sends in a DNA sample.
I won't spoil more, but it's a great read. Classic Coben with twists and turns, great mystery.
Throw in some reality TV and it gets crazy!

Spoiler
It's mentioned Wilde is a bad shot with a pistol, but he was in the military. So that doesn't make sense to me (former military myself). Soldiers have to qualify with weapons before bootcamp graduation and then for their specific jobs.
No clue how this book has such high reviews; I found it to be lagging and just wanted it to get to the point. Pros: likable characters
Cons: too many holes in the story, author never reveals what main character is doing as a living (expensive hotels, hangs out all day…), police and FBI share case information with civilians, story has no closure for other some (but this is book 2, I can’t imagine reading a sequel…and there’s a prequel to this! No, thanks!)
For these reasons, I’m out. Wouldn’t recommend yet somehow I finished the book.

This is a sequel to The Boy From the Woods, which I haven’t read, and so once again, I consumed the second in a series before the first. However, this one is very enjoyable as a standalone. If you’re looking for a DNA related mystery, this one should satisfy. The characters are interesting and the novel moves right along with twists and turns. I thought the Boomerang group of vigilantes was a little bit far-fetched, but I guess it works. I wasn’t able to predict how this would wrap up, so that’s a plus. The ending is unexpected but fitting.
Raised as a foster child, Wilde was found as a boy living alone in the wilderness. Now as an adult he summitted his DNA to an online genealogy testing service, looking for a match that will give him some clues about his parentage. When his results come back, Wilde is not quite prepared to delve into them. Months later, he decides he is ready to meet Daniel Carter, his father according to the DNA test. He finds that Daniel is a married man with three grown daughters who never knew of Wilde’s existence and is not in a position for him to be a part of his life at present. He gives Wilde some vague information about who his mother might be, but it is not really helpful. So, Wilde focuses on another match, likely a cousin on his mother’s side. Finding the identity of the match and tracking this entity down is almost impossible. In fact, those who knew him believe him to have committed suicide. However, in his investigation Wilde finds himself a suspect in a string of homicides. He needs to figure out how they all tie together before he becomes the next target.
