Dropped this book halfway through chapter 11 because fuck that chapter, you can fucking fuck off if you want me to read through that nonsensical shite. A short story that’s apparently a 5 hour read took me over a month to get through because despite the main plot being intriguing with the portrait slowly corrupting alongside Dorian’s personality - I couldn’t overlook the constant bigotry and certain parts of the story dragging on for way too long.
It’s 3 stars because I was genuinely engrossed and loved the plot, and I was surprised of how much of an easy read it was (until chapter 11) but it slowly got more tedious…and then chapter 11 happened. I actually fucking threw my tablet across the room. I can’t force myself to read this shite anymore. It straight up made me angry.
Dorian Gray is one of the stories where the aesthetic and story itself is 5*, but the actual writing - jfc. I would probably give a more modern/politically correct adaptation of this story a 5*.
Edit: so unfortunately I HAVE to finish this book for my university. I just skipped chapter 11 and watched a summary of it on YouTube - will update when I finish the fucking book. Chapters 8 to 11 made this go down from a 4* to 3*

Lord Henry says heinous things in the moat charming manner and i fear that if he were real, i too would fall for his charms hook line and sinker.
I actually really enjoyed the book and am surprised by how much i liked it. Its very different from what i typically read in terms of style and content but it was an easy read nonetheless.
also chapter eleven is the greatest literary masterpiece ever written?? thats crazy???
