I adore these short stories!

I am so enjoying these novels. I loved revisiting the cafe and meeting the new customers passing through. I guess the real message throughout is to never leave things unsaid...
slow-paced

Similar with the former book, Before the Coffee Gets Cold: Tales From the Café is a story about Funiculi Funicula cafe that's claimed to be able to take its customers back to the past or go to the future. Sets 6 years later, one of our beloved character is gone and replaced by cute little girl.

Among 4 stories in this book, I like the 2nd best. It's just sad. Well, every story has its own sadness, but this one got me.

Morale of the story: never assume. open up and speak your mind up. be happy.

Do not dwell in sadness, regret, and guilt. Stop blaming yourself over a spill milk. Cause everyone who loves you want you to be happy.

Personally, I love this series. While I understand it might not be for everyone, I think that it’s a really interesting take on grief and also moving forward. It’s a plus that we got more insight into the lady in the chair
I had guessed it from the previous book, but I appreciate the confirmation that the ghost (Kaname) was Kazu’s mom

I think my favorite part of this is how each “chapter” is its own story, it allows the story to progress in a more natural and also digestible way. I understand why some people feel like it is repetitive (since they have to go over the rules of the cafe for each customer), but it’s a good reminder to have.

Anywhoooo, my personal ranking of the stories is as follows (but keep in mind, I loved them all)
1) Best Friend
2) Lovers
3) Mother and Son
4) Husband and Wife/ Married Couple

Sweet, timid writing. Explores themes of mourning, regret, and wishes with a colorful cast of loveable characters. The setting, a timeless underground coffee bar which serves acidic Mocha, all very Buddhistic, is a place I'll merrily frequent in my mind for a cup. While reading, images of Manga or Anime spring to mind, specifically when the shy giant chef Nagare is involved or his hyperactive 7yo daughter who has a a tendency to blab in French: very kawaii. Although a cute cat graces this book's cover, nonesuch appears in the story.
